Sinéad died on the 26th July 2023. Her son Shane took his own life in January 2022 aged 17. Sinéad was abused as a child by her mother who was killed in a car crash when Sinéad was 18. Sinéad's mother used to make her sleep in the backyard, hence the reference to mama and flowers in the backyard. When Sinéad sang the song she cried at this point. You can see that in the video. This was not a romantic love song, but part of her childhood being re-lived. As for ripping up the picture of the pope, the picture belonged to her mother and used to hang on the wall in the kitchen of the family home. The death of her son finally broke her spirit. Rest in peace Sinéad. There will never be another like you.

This was actually a Prince song that he recorded many years prior and he said all the flowers that you planted "mama" referring to the woman that he lost it's a term some men call their lady but maybe it meant something different to Sinead but yeah Prince asked her to sing it. His version is good too.

Sinead was the first person to publicly call out the pedophiles hiding in the catholic church. She was called a liar and crazy, nearly destroyed her. For this alone she deserves all of our respect.

Sinead O’Connor, became my hero when she was on Saturday night live she did her song, War, and then said fight the real enemy and tore up a picture of the Pope. Kind of surprised to see you reacting to Sinead, she was seriously one of the greatest vocalist of her time! She became the subject of cancel culture. She was pretty much shunned after tearing up a picture of the Pope and I don't know that she ever recovered from that. Any song off of the Lion and the cobra album is amazing. Look forward to you covering more of her songs and videos. I don't really think she ever received all the recognition that she deserved for her Talent

That wasn't a controversial moment by her, she was protesting true evil, the Catholic Church's systematic abuse of children, the Pope's direct knowledge of it, and his shielding of abusive clergy and bishops. In her homeland Ireland, the scandal was already well-known, but here in the States it took another decade before the extent of the physical and sexual abuse by American clergy was widely reported. Anyone who had been paying attention knew exactly why she ripped that awful man's picture. Sinead was right and she deserves unreserved apologies from many people.

I love you two. Bt-dub, I worked in the same pizza restaurant in Dublin back in the early eighties that Sinead worked in as a waitress, briefly. She was even then a skinhead clothed in an x-large t-shirt and Doc Martins. As young as we were and on her level age wise, she floated among us and beyond us at the same time. A tortured soul, which is nothing new for Irish poets.

Let me give the backstory on this song. Number one Prince wrote this song but not for Sinead O'Connor, he wrote it back in 1984 and gave it to a group he started called The Family. And B he wasn't fond of Sinead O'Connor doing this song, but because back in 1990 he didn't own his masters yet. Warner Bros. who was the record label Prince was on gave Sinead O'Connor permission to cover this song because they owned the masters. And three the group he wrote the song for called The Family has now changed their name to fDeluxe, when Prince died fDeluxe redid the song Nothing Compares 2 U and in my opinion is the best version of this song anybody has done.

prince wrote this song. People always think that its about a man she loved that hurt her but it has nothing to do with a man. she associates this song with her mom (she was a drug addict who totally neglected her. Sinaed tried everything and anything to get love and attention and acceptance from her mom but nothing changed in her favor)and the passing of her mom which I believe Sinead was 18 or 19. She loved and still loves her till this day. she said she misses her and wishes to hear her mom tell her she loves her or just a hug. i mean her mom was an awful parent no food, no electricity, no love, nothing. thats why she cries right after the "flowers mom planted all died after she went away

He has a nice voice, he just felt no connection to this song, I saw no emotion at all. He just knew how to perform it well based on his past performance history, but I'm not too sold on him, I wouldn't rush to another song of his based on this performance

@@angelika_munkastrap4634 you're the only person that I've ever seen with that reaction. I respect it though. Have you ever heard anything else of his?

No I haven't, not even when he sang for any groups, so if there's something you think he's awesome in, like maybe something he wrote that he might actually have a connection to, because you would with your own stuff, please send me the link here. He does have a nice gravelly tone to his voice, I heard him definitely get more enthused with this song towards the end when he sang about the flowers dying, that's when I heard his voice at it's best

A tremendous talent who is very troubled. She suffers from bipolar disorder and recently had an episode where she was living in a motel room at the Jersey Shore doing videos begging for help. She recently converted to Islam and last I heard was getting back on her feet.

She had years of sexual abuse by members of her church and family. Such a sad story for such a talented artist.
