I love Sinead's version but I have to say, after I heard Prince do it alone, I prefer his. The duet was I think back with The Family which was a group that Prince was heavily involved in do to the female lead singer who was Wendy Melvoin's sister, Susannah. He was romantically involved with Susannah and that was how he met Wendy and she became a part of The Revolution.

There is an amazing live version of this which is more than just a performance, its a human being expressing her heart and soul into her vocals and theres a documentary just come out called 'Nothing Compares' which is brilliant and shows who she was and her motivations and why she was a true artist who followed her conscience. I believe she thought of her mother when she sang this despite her mother being a very troubled woman who physically, mentally and spiritually beat Sinead when she was young and who died when Sinead was 18, it almost seems like despite everything Sinead is somehow forgiving her....RIP Sinead...gone from this Earth but your amazing voice lives on...

She was an iconic figure for speaking out the truths of what was thought to be rumor. As an artistic singer her voice captured my heart and soul. The words of this song, so soulful. It showed how depressing life can get from failed relationships, death in the family, reminiscing past loves. Even mentioning seeing a physician to help one cope... and her voice sang so beautifully it made up for the message of the song Prince wrote for her. Great reaction for another great song.

It is great to see you reacting to Sinéad O'Connor. Sinéad has done a lot of great songs, starting with her first album, The Lion and the Cobra, in 1987. An incredibly angry, wonderful album. I'd recommend trying a song or two from that album. If you want one of the most quietly rageful songs ever, try the song Troy. If you want something dancy, Mandinka is a great one. I Want Your (Hands On Me) is another great one. I love everything about that album. From the same album as the one you just listened to, Black Boys on Mopeds is a great one - a bit on the sad side, but still wonderful. The Emperor's New Clothes is another great one from the same album. She has done a variety of different musical styles, including a reggae album and an album of traditional Irish songs. Unfortunately, she has had a pretty hard life, dealing with abuse as well as a hard struggle with mental illness, which she has spoken quite publicly about to help destigamtize mental illness. Her musical work is well worth exploring.

Prince wrote this, and his original version is exactly like this with her vocals - the first version he wrote for a group The Family - the haunting beat, tempo to the melody , the choir, the lyrics, are all Prince itt is not "redone." and she sings it beautifully - this shows really how talented Prince was - wrote amazing songs for other artists - Feel for U - Chaka Khan, Manic Monday for the Bangals and many more.. He does another version of this that is more soul and bluesy when he goes on tour.. Sinead his fantastic as well. Play Manic Monday. :) 80's-90's was and is awesome. Sinade didn't write this song, Prince did, and it sent her into the music stratosphere when this came out. Sadly, Sinaed had a very difficult childhood when it came to her mother (who I think was mentally challenged), but she was thinking of her when she sang this song. After this song became a big hit, she was asked to host Saturday Night Live (and this is when she tore a picture of the Pope up in front of everyone) which didn't go over well, it affected the rest of her career. Her point, the church is full of BS, and they didn't protect the children. Tragic that she has suffered with these demons all her life. She's Irish

At least a couple dozen songs on rotation. Including one written for an Academy Award winning film. Famous composers were requesting her to perform their songs live. thanks for reacting to Sinead. She was an icon, but there's a complex history there, a mix of PR and some personal challenges she faced in her life. I believe she cut off her hair as her label wanted to market her based on her looks....Her voice though. So amazing. She definitely is someone you should listen to, even if you don't react in video, as her work is pretty phenomenal. Her own songwriting is amazing. Her first album, The Lion and the Cobra is phenomenal and very different. Glad we have her talent preserved through her music.
