Shawn we have been watching you since the beginning and can now move up to the huntsville/northbay area. We are really looking forward to living this lifestyle. My wife and I have dreamed this for years and are within a week from loading up the truck and leaving to buy a property. Some of my family thinks we are totally nuts but it is the same family that has no savings and borrows tens of thousands for the newest highend vehicles. It is real now and we are both scared and excited at the same time but have set this up for years and many thanks to you are prepared for what is ahead. No debt is a big factor in our lives and most important. We are opening a business there and one way or the other will be able to semi-retire. Lot better than making others rich while not knowing our future income.

The thing I have seen over and over again with channels I am subscribed to is that when the guys begin building their cabin, they don't consider their significant other ever coming down. After they complete the cabin, then they want their wives to join them, but there isn't any room for them. I would want a first floor bedroom for when we get too old to climb a ladder into the loft. Porches also seem to be an after thought, and that is my favorite place to be. I am glad you added a screened in porch. Your place is beautiful.

Love your channels and been watching them for years. One thing I would like you to comment on is that if 100% of the people in the world did what you are doing now, what do you think the impact would be. Think of three key resources that you need... water, food, power. Water is pretty easy in certain areas but not in other areas so how can you get clean reliable water. Second, food...if everyone is hunting/fishing meat then that resource will go away quickly....that is why I think you have the back up with the garden. Last but not least, power...you have shown we really don't need power for every day lives BUT you have a generator and solar panels to charge your equipment...thought exercise for you. If you didn't have to upload videos or have internet, could you do without power? I love you channel and watched every episode and think liked every one of them. Last thought, the solar and batteries that are used cost a lot and could not be replicated in a "simple world"//

you were just building the cabin when I began watching. It's been like a master class. I have loved the first hand view of how hard work pays off and how to take joy in hard work. To wake up every day with a task and to have a purpose. To learn while you are working on that task. I like how sometimes you do not know if something will work but you put your entire self into it and then it flourishes. Your gardens are a direct representation of that. When you were first beginning to create those hugelhump thingys for your garden, putting in moose poop and ashes and huge chunks of wood I was thinking that I hoped you would get something to grow. It was way more successful than I had thought it would be and I am obnoxiously optimistic. Now you are canning and building your root cellar and so I have gotten to see the entire process and it's very satisfying. Canning, drying, storing. just happy we got to share in it.

My first in-home fire was yesterday too, and I also picked the rest of the tomatoes, skinned them, and put them in freezer bags and into the freezer. We have all the wood we'll be needing for this year and half of next years. Allen's been talking about rounding up some more right away. I have to get all four burls out of the rain, dry them out, and decide what I see in them that I can carve out. In one I see a buck standing in the trees. I hope I can capture that as well as I am picturing it. I finished another wood burning plaque and am pleased with that. Only took me two days to burn and color it. So I've been keeping busy with fun projects during this isolated new reality. Sure would love to sit in a restaurant for a duck dinner or a breakfast though. Take care and stay safe. LOL

Normally when I discover a new KZbinr I don’t go through the back catalogue (most of us it seems are like that, too much current content to watch), but you’re going to be the exception. I’ll get around to start watching one of these days.

Hi again SHAWN How time flies! Been with you since you began construction and amazing what you've accomplished. Everything is holding up well and this year was quite a productive one. Takes the pressure off knowing you have plenty of cut wood for the winter. This winter should be less pressure for you as you seem to have gotten into the rhythm of your life there. So happy for you that you are living how you've worked so hard for to become your new reality. Enjoyed every minute of the journey with you and look forward to all you'll be doing in the future. All that you do touches and enriches the lives of so many in some way. I hope you know how special your wisdoms and life stories have been so valuable also. Thx as always for sharing and keeping my favorite loon singing his song with every vid ending. An extra hug for Cali!

Thank you for the update and I'm looking forward to seeing the cabin video. Once you completed the screened in porch, I kept looking at the window into the cabin thinking, gee, that should be a door, lol. I think it would allow the porch to be a space that could be used more often - during all kinds of weather - without having to trudge through the weather. Looking forward to all of your future and current projects. Gives me lots of ideas and you keep me motivated to complete the ones I'm already in the middle of.

Another great video Shawn .. have been watching you for about a year now, my wife and I will settle very soon in Mountain Ash country in Victoria Australia, where old dead timber can be used to fascilitate myself working with natural timber. Keep up your enthusiasm ... it’s infectious .. cheers from Australia .. Red

I have been enjoying this whole journey with you. And it's been great watching everything come together and the special times the wife and girls would join you. Certainly don't see enough of your wife especially. But one of my favorite things is to see how Cali is doing. She is precious and priceless. Im sure she is a wonderful companion.

I've watched on your MSR channel from nearly the beginning of your cabin build. It's impressive watching you build and tinker through bug season (I wouldn't like that a bit) but especially through the winter months with snow up to your hat ☺️. Your family must be super proud of your accomplishments.

Totally agree. Very grounding during a spacey time. GREAT blessing. Thanks Shawn. Also, I’m getting a few projects done around the house that I used to think, were too hard to do. Bless you.

Iam loving these update videos Shawn I do have a few questions for you though. 1-whats the size of your windows and doors and the pitch of the screened in porch? 2-From what I see the main cabin is a 12/12 pitch and the screened in porch is a 6/12 pitch. How correct is this? 3- whats the width of the screened in porch? I believe the length is 20'-0" like the cabin and mu guess is 8'-0" wide. And lastly... 4- the dimensions of the back room? Im sure it will come up in some trivia questions in the future and want to be ready😁😁😁🤓
