While I'm on the homestead building a stone chicken coop, a wild turkey gobbles in the distance in my food forest and provides an opportunity to harvest a turkey and cook it in the wood cookstove in my outdoor kitchen at my off grid log cabin.

Hi, I'm Shawn James. I am a passionate outdoorsman living the life of my dreams in a log cabin that I built by myself in the Canadian wilderness. Join me and my golden retriever, Cali and listen to the sounds of the forest in this relaxing wilderness setting. I prefer to keep my talking to a minimum and let the natural sounds of nature make you feel as though you are there with me.

May I offer a suggestion? I have noticed your beautiful old wood stove top is looking a little rusty. My grandmother who used a wood stove regularly, use to ball up some waxed paper and rub it over the hot surface. Like magic it became shiny and black as new. It lasts a good while and slows the formation of new rust. I guarantee you will be pleased. Oh yes, and thank you for all the hours of fascinating video and very hard work.

Nice woodstove! Surface rust can be removed by laying vinegar soaked paper towels on top and let sit for a few hours. Remove towels then sprinkle the area with baking soda to neutralize the acidic reaction. Rub with blue non abrasive scotchbrite and clesn off that with a damp cloth or sponge. Season with oil as with a cast iron pan.

About your stove, you should give it time to worm up when you start the fire ,and leave the top plates on,you’re only blacking your pots for no reason,as the top plates will hold the heat and boil your pot just as fast., from a stove user for the past fifty years☘️🇮🇪

You're quite the one man show Shawn . Love watching you build anything, but that's a cool looking Switzerland style chicken coop and that's pretty darn amazing. I guess that was your wife talking in the background unless Cali used hooked on phonex and learned to speak English 😂😂 Emily got a video out to us today and I'm so sad to hear she's still struggling with her concussion symptoms. They can really cause havoc in one's life but I hate it's happening to her. She's such a sweetheart and so adventurous and loves the outdoors but it's hard to get to active with the brain injury. Dale Earnhardt Jr. I'm sure yall know is the nascar driver that had a concussion from a crash a number of yrs ago and he got better after a couple yrs and even got back in the race car and still does periodically so they can be cured just takes time and doing everything her doctors tell her to. I'm praying for her and hope that happens soon because I want our little Emily back that was so vibrant and happy and working and building at hers and your cabin and gardens. Thanks Shawn wifey and sweet Cali .🙏

I got my 1st Mirriam sub species Wild Turkey, last Sunday morning at 6:30 am about 20 minutes after they came down from the roost. I used 3" magnum 12 ga #5 shot in a 22 inch barrel modified choke pump shotgun. We had hunted 2 evenings and 1 morning prior. The evening before success we found their roosting trees, that was the key to success. This was in Northern Utah, the Wasatch mountains. About 5500 ft elevation. They will move up to about 6-7000 ft as we get into Summer. Based on the beard length, mine was 2 years old and weighed 15 lbs once gutted and plucked.
