I also live in an area where we coexist with wolves. Often hear them howling, and see their footprints in the snow when out deer and partridge hunting. Yesterday saw a flock of ravens in the middle if a nearby farm field, stopped the old pickup, trudged through 18" of fresh snow for a half km, and yup, just as expected came across a fresh from the night before wolf kill of a small deer. All that was left was the hide, the hind legs and the rib cage. The wolves, ravens and eagles have to eat as well. Greetings from my cabin on the shores of Lake of the Woods, Ontario, in the Rainy River District! Always appreciate your content.

This is my favorite channel now. I love watching Shawn build his cabin, playing with Cali, and the beautiful scenery. Shawn is a Real Manly Man! Skills that most men don't have any longer. Yup, like I wrote earlier in your internal ceiling post on your other channel, you and Cali have been zoned in on by a full Canadian Wolf pack, and you are under constant surveillance by them ! They are magnificently patient and determined hunters, and they won't stop until you stop them Shawn. These animals do represent a real danger (Even more than a local black bear or two) in the sense the wolf pack is far more aggressive and determined to get what you have to offer (Food) than the bears are. Cali can both smell and hear them just beyond the end of your open field in the thick wood watching. The watchers howl to communicate with the pack to surround your place. This is how you know they are about to make their appearance; When you hear them howl from more than one, or multiple directions, then grab your weapon (s) and be ready. Until then, keep your powder dry.

I loved watching the snow falling off the tree branches then catching the wind currents and floating around in the air then falling down to the ground, just lovely. When you finish building your home will you give a tour of it? I am amazed that you have done so much of it just yourself. Your view of the meadow out your front door... Truly God's gift. I'm glad you got the breezeway finished, so Cali can sleep in there, safe from the wolves, without getting too hot and wanting to stay out, as she did in the old cabin. Here in the Netherlands they are trying to get some wolves to settle as part of improving nature. There had been none left here for a long time, though occasionally a single one would wander in from Germany. Now in the few largish nature reserves we have there are a few dens, and adolescents as well as lone German wolves are moving into more farmed areas. I thought wolves would prefer to keep their distance from humans, but there have been sightings of wolves moving around the fields near some woods, behind the barn, pretty close - as near as they were to your cabin. Farmers have reported a lot more kills than they could eat, like 6 sheep killed and more wounded in one night, in one field behind the barn close to the farmhouse, and a girl's pony killed in the field beside the stable, also close to their farmhouse, and those farm kids are told not to play behind the barn even in daylight. Is it just that those young wolves don't know any better? And how do they learn to keep their distance, when they aren't hunted and even shooting at them with a paintball gun is forbidden? I don't want them to be hunted, and I think all the farmers near nature reserves should get support to get better fences that will not only keep sheep, cows and ponies in but will keep wolves out. But if they trot through the fields in daylight, take large animals from fields right next to farmhouses, and aren't wary/afraid of humans, I do worry that they will pose a danger to children playing outside or biking about on their own, as they do here, or even to dog-walking adults. The mass sheep kills really were wolf kills, we don't have stray dogs here (all caught, chipped and taken to a shelter and adopted), and the dead sheep were checked to make sure it wasn't done by someone's dogs.

Hello Shawn, the new cabin is coming along great and I honestly like everything your doing with it as you turn it into a strong and comfortable place you can call home for years to come. Cali is such a wonderful dog that is well behaved, playful, and your loving little shadow and I can tell you care for deeply, whereas I have my own little shadow pup named Nugget that just turned 14 years old that places me in fear of losing him someday soon although I don’t like the thought of ever losing him as he’s become like one of my children. He was the only boy out of a litter of 4 that we rescued before they were weaned meaning we fed them with tiny bottles, etc. and ended up falling in love and keeping them all on our country homestead where we have the space they needed, and today he’s the only one left and he seems to be doing great besides being a bit slower these days. We always wanted to do exactly what your doing once we retired, however we have been dealing various medical problems caused from a bad car wreck and cardiac disease all of which are slowly being dealt with and treated, and I look forward to the day of being healthy once again to do everything I’ve wanted to do. Sorry so long winded but I wanted to reach out and say hello and keep up the great work and keep these very interesting and enjoyable videos coming!
