i read war and peace in 4 days (like a literal psychopath) but it is HONESTLY so good. Like it is the BEST book I've read this year and top 3 of my life. and YUCK, I hate saying that because I'm aware how annoying it is for someone to be like 'wooow a 1300+ page book is one of the best books ever ☝😋' BUT IT ISSS tolstoy also criticises historians throughout the book for pushing their own agenda through historical events (history is written by the victor vibes), and REALLY interesting depiction of both real life historical figures and fictionalised characters. ALSO I liked seeing how certain men (no spoilers here xx) can fall from being an almost omnipotent figure to a disgraced outcast hehe there was the fb page in Australia called Girls Advice and it was just the most heinous gossip group filled with girls recounting their most depraved experiences and thoughts of debauchery etc, and that is literally what war and peace is. gossip, soirees, romance, infidelity, bickering and war. (the war was not boring, though)

I am so excited!! I’ve noticed Tolstoy seems to infuse a lot of his own beliefs whether political, philosophical, etc. in a way that is so obvious yet kind of subtle?? Anna Karenina seems to me to be a massive critique of the upper class and aristocracy, with Levin mirroring Tolstoy and obviously pointing out the bullshit while also feeding into it… also floors me how dated it is AND feels but also still holds up TODAY in almost every way… it feels like I’m reading a classic written 200 years ago, a book written in 200 years, and one written yesterday

I CONCURR. I think war and peace is predominantly about ego and the destructive nature of pride and misplaced ambition (a bit of walter white if u ask me). SUPER INTERESTING. also how our mundanity will be the focus of someone's study in like 100 years and how no life, no matter how 'small', is not as worth telling as someone else's Erm also I did not proofread my initial comment, and upon doing so, I'm so ashamed of my lack of grasp on the English language, despite it being my mother tongue

okay.. the beginning of this video is *immaculate*. I clicked on this video and was immediately hit with beautiful reverberations gracing my ears (wear headphones ppl, i didn’t know shawn was an asmr channel) and after replaying the first 3 seconds of this video 50 times I decided I was ready to proceed with the video but made a mental note of coming back at the end just to hear tinkerbell again. SO excited that you bought the bluest eye. definitely one of the hardest books i’ve read (subject matter wise) but so beautifully written and a lot of great commentary on race and family dynamics in my opinion!! also, the year of magical thinking was written before her daughter passed away, but takes place while she is in the hospital/ first couple of months in recovery. it’s so sad to know that her daughter passes away shortly after it’s written :(. will be patiently waiting for your vlogmas videos this month 🫶
