No wonder why the good ol' Grateful Dead wanted Bruce Hornsby on the piano at their shows. The man is an awesome musician, and an even better person, so he fit right in. Plus, he knew their music. "The Way It Is" is a big dose of truth in song. Bruce is as good a writer of songs as there is, and he plays the hell out of the piano at every turn. Seen him live many, many times both with his band, The Range, and when he was with The Dead for a couple of years. Always a treat, always a good time. My all-time favorite person in Rock and Roll.

Really glad you reacted to this!! I actually saw Bruce Hornsby this past Tuesday night at the Paramount Theater here in Austin! He is popular for his commercial hits from the 80s and 90s, but he is one of the greatest pianists ever in popular music history. There are plenty of more recent live videos showing the depth of his piano talent. An amazing songwriter, and he is still producing music to this day. And don't recommend mixing any rap with this.

One of my favorite songs. Clean notes that take you on a journey. Plus he is quite a storyteller. He is mesmerizing to see live.

Instant classic the moment it first played on FM radio! The piano playing is masterful by Bruce! He is more like in the class of Billy Joel or Elto John!

Yes, yes, yes..I agree! Both Bruce and Mark have that beauty and magic in their fingers. There are a few musicians and singers who have that gift. This world was given a gift in music. IMO. Not sure where I would be without it, sometimes. Peace

Now you know the truth. Bruce Hornsby was a genius, both in lyrics and piano. I was there when he first came out. I adore and respect him to this day. I'm 67. Incredible artist Bonnie Raitt described Bruce Hornsby as "gospel meets Bill Evans". I was raised and schooled by a jazz pianist mother and music teacher. Look up Bill Evans and you will get the reference. Bruce Hornsby is unequaled.

Why can't we all understand, respect and love each other as brothers and sisters? You would think we All would've learned better after all these years in history. War is Hell. Nothing new. Change! Being an open, compassionate and empathetic person is a start. That's how all Human Beings achieve their evolution and enlightenment. 🕉️

For people who think those who abuse, say…welfare are getting away with something, I highly recommend they watch the movie ‘Precious.’. The welfare life is anything but charmed; there is absolutely nothing to envy.

IMHO Hornsby is right up there with Billy Joel and Elton John as one of the greatest pianists to have contributed to modern popular music in the past fifty years.

I like it! "The Mark Knopfler of piano!" Yes, he's an amazing pianist. He accompanies Bonnie Raitt on her song "I can't make you love me". It's a wonderful performance. His and hers. You should listen to it if you haven't already.

So I have been a fan of Hornsby since his first albume, in 1990 when Brent died I was about to stop following the Dead around and then one of the greatest musical collaborations happened, Hornsby joined the Dead and I couldn't stop, he played iwth them for about 2 years, Great stuff

Hornsby does a lovely ballad with Stevie Nicks "Two kinds of love" (sorry I'm now correcting the title I got it wrong before) and I would hope you might check it out. I've known people throughout my life that say racist things and when I disagree with them, they just shrug and say to me 'That's just the way it is"..

You should 100% check out the Tupac song that sampled this song. It’s called “Changes”…and I think you will be surprised at how much of a visionary Tupac was at such a young age…he was only 25 when he died, and he really had some wisdom that doesn’t usually come to people until we’ll after their 20s…if ever!
@objectiveobserver4278

Tupac stole this song and gave no credit. His vision came directly from the original lyrics that were written, sung and the piano played by Bruce Hornsby. Tupac was gangsta and now he's dead. I bet he didn't envision that either. Find yourself another idol.

I grew up with a mom and dad that listened to Tejano music and the rare / occasional oldies. Brother was in to grunge and heavy metal, sister that was into country and the rest were into "hood rat music" as we called it where I am from lol. Not much exposure to many other styles of music, especially this kind of music

You keep getting the classics. Great vibe, great voice, great piano. Hip Hop is not my strong suit, but I did like 2PAC's take on Phil's 'IN the Air Tonight' Speaking of Phil..... Check out 'That's Just The Way It Is' by Phil Collins featuring CSN&Y David Crosby's vocals. Another blast at ignorance. Sure there is some 'welfare abuse' but there is far more corporate abuse. It takes a heck of a lot more out of our pockets than the 'red meat' that Conservatives like to throw out. It is not just 'Another Day in Paradise' for too many!
