Loved Barry Manilow's music back in the 70's-80's even though some people didn't consider it cool. Barry is a great singer songwriter & his music career spans nearly 7 decades. My favorite song by him is "Weekend In New England". But he had so many great songs such as "Mandy", "I Write The Songs", "Looks Like We Made It", "Can't Smile Without You", "Copacabana (At The Copa)", "Bandstand Boogie", "Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again", "Ready To Take A Chance Again", "Even Now", It's A Miracle" etc.

And he played backup piano for Bette Midler.

MANDY is another great song by Barry Manilow
@subwaygoddess19 ай бұрын
Barry is now around 80 years old. His range is still very good, but Could It Be Magic is not easy to sing. He sings a few lines, then launches into the disco version that Donna Summer did. He says "I wasn't sure how I felt hearing this beautiful song made into a disco record, but then, it went to #1, so I love it!" Its easier to sing Donna's version, so he does. Later in the show, up on the screen, there's an old video of Mandy. Some time into the song, Barry comes out, sits at the piano, sings Mandy live, then launches into the 2nd half of Could It Be Magic. I'm going to see him for a 2nd show tonight

Shawn, I think the song you couldnt place is "Un-Break My Heart" by Toni Braxton, which came out in 1996. The piano prelude and piano postlude played by Barry Manilow alone (no singing or accompaniment) is from the Chopin piece. I took 8 years of piano lessons growing up, and played a lot of the classics - Chopin, Beethoven, etc. I always thought this one by Barry Manilow was a very clever blending, seemlessly, of the old with the new!

You would be shocked to learn how much of "modern music" borrowed, often without attribution, from the great composers of classical music! It was a great slow skate at the roller rink! Any Manilow tune is great, but if you get the chance look up and listen to him do all the jingles he wrote for TV commercials before he became well known! He also accompanied Bette Midler for a while too.
