It's been over forty years now and that damn intro still raises the hairs on the back of my neck. How can music affect you emotionally for so long. Stunning way to open a gig.

Fantastic request and reaction😊❤ It's amazing to me that it's been 50 years since this concert, and Peter Gabriel's new album 'i/o' just hit #1 on the UK charts, a week or two ago (his last #1 album was 'So' in 1986).

Great reaction. Excited you found this early Genesis. As you read, 'Watcher of the Skies' is about the destruction of life on Earth. "Has life again destroyed life" Such a very Goth approach and atmosphere, they were way ahead of the times. I never saw this performance live but earlier this month saw the Canadian tribute group The Musical Box. They opened with this production, using some of the original slides. Could not believe how avant-garde it was. Two huge eyes made the whole stage look like a giant alien. Peter Gabriel loved his drama, true. Gabriel's new album is fantastic. Saw his concert tour last month! Very creative. Very musical. Very dramatic with the visuals. The dude is a creative genius.

I saw this Live in the early 70’s, as a teenager, at my hometown venue. Peter Gabriel as frontman, Phil Collins on drums. Amazing Show. 🎶❤️🎶

Yeah, it was the best lineup: Phil drumming and Peter singing and "acting". Too bad they moved from masterpiece like this to sappy song like "Ripples" 😐

This band is full of talent all around! When you get to "Supper's Ready", make sure you include the previous intro-track, "Horizons'... these are on the same album as "Watcher...". No hurry, just thought I'd mention that. ;-]

This was the first song I ever heard of them after buying their LIVE album in late 1973 without any clue what to expect. Oh , those first chords. And 1.5 years later I saw them perform The Lamb. Until one of the best shows I ever saw.

Early Genesis is the way to go. Love Pete’s vocals. I was always impressed with Peter’s mime like movements also. Pete had several costumes and mask he used during these concerts to portray different characters.

Opening song from the grandiose album Foxtrott of the Selling England tour 1973, for me the best, although I also attended a concert at Second's Out, with guitarist Steve; Phil was different to Peter as a lead singer, but also fantastic.

i do like the live versions of this track over the studio ones. Same with The Knife and Attack of the Giant Hogweed. Better reviewers out there? One advantage you have over most music reviewers is that you do not stop the music to make comments. I HATE that! The worse of them may pause the song even before it actually gets going. You got my vote bro. They need to let the song play through and then talk about it later. Else too many times they kill the mood that the musicians worked so hard at putting us under, and that doesn't come back when they resume playing it. Real music lovers know what I speak of. LET THE MUSIC PLAY!

Im a die hard Genesis fan of over fifty years and much prefer their older more creative music. This recording sounds amazing taking into account of how old it is. Peter Gabriel was a great loss when he left but Steve Hackett's was even greater his guitar work along with the key board's of Tony Banks made Genesis music so beautiful and engaging.
@lukaf23938 ай бұрын
Genesis with Phil Collins singing is a very good band... Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Phil "just" drumming... well it's really another music. Aliens like "the watcher". Nothing can't be compared.

Funny enough, during the live performances' long instrumental breaks, Tony Banks dismissed the idea of Peter Gabriel playing some extra keyboards. At the same time, Gabriel started to tell stories to entertain people while Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett were tuning their instruments between the songs. If watching the interviews they gave for the Gabriel - era CD - Box, it is no wonder Gabriel left, Banks complaining about Gabriel singing over his keyboard parts.
@lukaf23938 ай бұрын
True.On the other hand after "The Lamb" it would be impossible make even better, they riched their peak. After Peter left, it was another story with a lot of ups and (especially) downs. Bank (probably the main genious among other genious) told he loved "hits" and easy song... too bad.

@@lukaf2393 But then both Gabriel and later Genesis have songs both of them could have performed, "Solsbury Hill" and "Follow You Follow Me" for example, or "Games Without Frontiers" and "It's Gonna Get Better".

@@onsesejoo2605Yes, but nothing they did as solo can compare with what they create as an "ensemble", imho.

@@lukaf2393 Many former band members have fallen into that pit but to be fair, often it happens that the certain "feel" around the band vaporises when "classic line-up" member or members leave.

The audience noise sounds like an overdub, and the silhouettes of the audience are completely stationary. Was there actually an audience there? Seems unlikely to me, why use a film studio rather than a normal concert hall? Looks like post production effects to me.
