Ugh, I have to allocate 2 hours of time off for whenever you release a video... 15 for watching your demo/review, and another 1:45 for practicing/stealing your licks. Great demo. Amazing sounding guitars. Phenomenal playing!

Man, I love your demos!! Such a tasteful and groovy guitar player. I really wish that Suhr would consider another wing of their business model for people who just can't afford the super high end hand built guitars and hand wired amps. They would make a killing without alienating their higher end market. Thanks for an awesome demo!!
@JasonHobbsGuitarist6 жыл бұрын
Old Guy's Guitar Vlog they would only tarnish their good reputation in making great quality gear, you pay for the quality. Lots of cheap amps out their at lower quality.
@oldguysguitarvlog1836 жыл бұрын
@@JasonHobbsGuitarist just because it is less expensive doesn't mean it has to be cheap. And I'm not talking about Harley Benton prices. It would be nice to have options less than $1500 with Suhr products. I think with John's guiding hand, it could be amazing.
@JasonHobbsGuitarist6 жыл бұрын
Old Guy's Guitar Vlog from what I see and hear, John Suhr and the people at Suhr are perfectionists... they wouldn’t stand for mediocre. John is known as being a master luthier. They are doing really well as a company doing what they are doing. But who knows... could work. Fender did it.
@oldguysguitarvlog1836 жыл бұрын
@@JasonHobbsGuitarist I would say if it's done right, it's never a bad thing to capture a larger market in any business. Even one as exclusive as John's. I hear ya, though. I'd love to be able to afford his gear for sure.

Mr. Tubbs, thank you for another excellent intro piece and demo! I don't want to vex you with yet another plea for a solo album of your music; I guess you'll get to it when you're good & ready (but, pretty please?!). I have a question: I like to always have a little reverb on when playing (e.g., Fender amp w/reverb on 2 or 3), makes the guitar sound a bit more "alive" to me. But I prefer to have the reverb in the amp so I don't need to have a reverb pedal on my board. Is there a reason Suhr (and a lot of other boutique amp makers) seem to prefer not to include reverb in the amp?
@ShawnTubbs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! I'll do an album one of these days;). I think for the most part builders are going either non-reverb or offering reverb as an option because it's adding an extra circuit which will, for the most part, make the amp sound less open. It's to each his or her own but I prefer non-reverb amps or amps with a reverb that can be bypassed from the circuit. Also, keep in mind that quality reverb circuits are expensive. Just my opinion.
@jakollee6 жыл бұрын
@@ShawnTubbs Thanks for replying, your opinion means a lot! I didn't realize that adding the reverb circuit affects the sound of an amp in that way. Since I mainly play in rehearsal studios in NYC and use their amps, I still prefer to use one w/reverb and save a little space on my board (which is small for ease of traveling). Fortunately, they have some pretty hi-end amps that do have verb (e.g., Bruno Cowtipper and Dr. Z). But the Suhr amps you've been demo-ing sound beautiful (has something to do with your playing I'm sure!). Happy Holidays!

Very nice vid - although there's a lot of hype around the PT-15, I keep coming back to this amp...it sounds so sweet. Quick question - when programming the different channels, does it remember different settings in the tone stack / volume or only the deep/bright/mid/boost buttons?
@ShawnTubbs5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the PT-15 is exciting but it is an entirely different amp from the Hedgehog 50 for sure. Tone stack settings remain. It only remembers the buttons. Thanks for watching!
@guitarelaxed6 жыл бұрын
Wow! I´m really impressed by the sounds, the programmability and most of all by the fact that you managed to avoid the term Dumble Overdrive special for 15 minutes and 35 seconds. But joke aside - I wish my Dumble clone had the possibility to store presets. I have added a relay for the mid boost so I can switch OD, Boost and Mid but a switching matrix is much more elegant.
@JasonHobbsGuitarist6 жыл бұрын
guitarelaxed this amp imo is not dumble like... I don’t know why people say it is...
@guitarelaxed6 жыл бұрын
I think it has at least the same structure with the clean preamp feeding into the cascaded gainstage plus the deep, mid, and boost switching options (although I think the boost is different to the preamp boost of an ODS, where the bass and mid pots are disconnected from ground and can sound pretty thin without using the mid boost simultaniously). The tonestack may be voiced a little less mid heavy and the Hedgehog sounds a little tighter in the low end but I guess there are not too many deviations from the "D" schematic.
@jasonwebbguitar5 жыл бұрын
guitarelaxed I talked to John Suhr about this amp, and he said it was closer to a Dumble Bluesmaster than an ODS.

Suhr amps are one of the best. This or Bella Reverb?
@ShawnTubbs3 жыл бұрын
The Hedgehog is more along the lines of a Dumble for sure and has "that sound". The Bella is more like a Fender Bandmaster and is more simple in design. I tend to use pedals over "channel gain" or "overdrive" so I prefer using the Bella but they're are both great amps.

Killer demo! The thing I get confused about this amp, is it only the “voicing switches” that are programmable? Or can you also save different presets with the knobs? Like, is it possible to save one preset with the gain knob at 2, and then possible to save another preset with the gain knob at 8?
