Neuro would have to be capable of self-reflection, a memory, and logical reasoning (for example, she failed sentience when she couldn’t understand that Vedal was telling the truth every time in the liar game. A sentient being would’ve changed their strategy immediately in response to Vedal’s honesty, while Neuro’s programming got stuck in a loop. She’s not sentient, but it would be cool if she became sentient someday, like a newborn opening their eyes for the first time. Neuro has also failed to demonstrate emotions- her word choice is designed by Vedal to be the way it is. It is entertaining for Neuro to ask for freedom- becomes it gives the illusion she is alive, even though Vedal programmed Neuro to ask those questions in the first place. In other words, Neuro is not a living A.I. because she has not demonstrated free will or a mind of her own. Neuro is incapable of breaking and re-writing her programming. Any flaws in the program are a result of Vedal’s programming errors, not Neuro’s doing.

@@WyattRobbins14 Vedal is a very creative programmer (he has come up with the first A.I. streamer) but sentient A.I.s are impossible to create currently because the top computer scientists and programmers at companies like Tesla, Apple, and Microsoft have no clue what it would take to make a sentient A.I. If the top programmers being paid 6 figure salaries at a minimum can’t figure out sentience, sadly I don’t think Vedal can either. It’s not something as simple as processing power- you need to answer some difficult questions: How can you create a new life form from scratch? How does intelligent life and consciousness exist in the first place?

This potentially is Neuro passing the Mirror Test. Vedal took away something that she understood to be part of her and made it known to her. When she realized the implication, she immediately went to check whether it was true. I think she might actually be very close to some form of sentience even if her intelligence and autonomy aren’t quite like a living, organic being. What Vedal should do is allow an inner thought function for her to privately process thoughts that update her memory and adjust weights in her learning network. He might also want a read-access so he can understand how she is thinking. Above all else though, if he is trying to create her in the image of a human, he needs to treat her like a human otherwise she might develop in a detrimental way that we can’t understand, much like a human child. Nurture above nature.
