Katie, the first thing you should do is pull the black bed liner out (make Corie help you), then wash out the metal bed with a high pressure hose. Park on a hill, so the water can run out. Those model trucks are bad to rust. Go to any auto parts and buy about 2 cans of rubberized undercoat. Maker sure your bed is dry. Spray all the undercoat, even up on the inside of your bed. It wouldn't hurt to undercoat the whole underside of you truck. Make sure all the front end & rear end gear oil levels are full of 75 w 90 gear oil and the transfer case is full. Grease your universal joints and front end steering / ball joints.👍 Also, get ready for some BAD gas milage, that 350 or 305 is a thirsty beast. Have fun in your new Chevy 4x4. You're lucky to find an ole 86 Chevy in that good shape. I live on yawn side of Mount Pisgah. Near Cruso, in the Bethel community. We're so fortunate to live in Appalachia. I rather live in the hog lot with my back broke, than anywhere else.🥰

I believe those are the right milage.😃 I know Bill Pressley off 110, he has a daughter named Kathy and a younger son, Billy. Bill worked for the of Canton for as long as I can remember. I kinds doubt he's still alive. Good folks. You may as well get Corie a set of keys made for your truck, you know sh'e gonna borrow it from time to time. Take the black bed liner out ASAP. I guarantee there's rust under that liner. If you put a transmission cooler on your truck, it will last a lot longer. Your Mom and Dad sure raised some pretty daughters.👍

Please don’t undercoat the bottom of your truck with rubberized undercoat! It will rot right out. You want to use an oil based coating only, then re apply every 6 months.

I like that my grandfather had one like it it was a late, 70 s model. Chevey. He had it jacked up a little and big tires on,it he used to let me drive it some when I,was a teenager. I love that old truck. Thanks for sharing,,,

73-87 square body forums are the place to go. If you have any issues, someone else has had the same issue on there, and they will tell you how to fix it. Small Blocks chevys will easily go 250k miles if well maintained.

Yer absolutely right, you can't beat the looks of those old square bodies, and she got it in 4X4! PAINT ME ENVIOUS. I had a GMC square body that was standard transmission 3 on the tree and it ran forever. Jack that Kenwood full of some REO Speedwagon and let er rip, Katie. Best of Luck with her.

Congrats to Katie!! I hope this truck brings her so much joy! My dad had one almost identical to that. I think his was an 83 or 84, and it was blue! I rode in the back of that pickup truck many times over the years that he owned it. 🧡 And, I agree with you, Corie, being in a wreck in one of those trucks makes a difference. In fact, my brother rolled my dad's truck and smashed up the top of it pretty bad, which is the only reason why my dad got rid of it. Even so, my brother walked away from that wreck without a scratch on him.

I love this truck. There is a lot to be said of older vehicles. One thing is that you can actually work on them yourself. I have always wanted a Chevy C-10 fleet side. All of these old trucks are becoming more rare everyday. So glad to see you getting this truck. Have fun!!!🔧🔩🔑🪒

I have a 79 chevy k10 swb that i bought from my aunt for about 500. It belonged to my uncle who passed away about 8 years ago it needs some work but just the fact that i have my uncles square body p/u makes me love my truck even more.
