Diesel or not, I was taught (decades ago) that if it's below 40*F, let it idle to let all the fluids get to operating temperature before driving. When did that change? My vehicle sits outside. So I let it idle while I clear the windows of frost, snow, or ice. Yes, it burns a little more fuel that way. But I would rather burn more fuel, than ruin my motor or transmission by driving it cold.

It didn't change. It is just the tree huggers thinking that is less impact on the environment. Thats not true and its unsafe as well.

On my last 7.3L I was a newbie to diesels so I took their advice about this. And at -18 in the leaving work and yes I had the heater plugged in on started it and drove by time I to the main I had a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. The next morning I went to start it sounded like lost 2 to 3 lifter so I drove it home and started trying to find what was wrong. It ended up being the cam starved of oil and wore down all the tops of the lobs 7 lifts were damaged and 4 pistons had bent rods and 1 piston the top 2 rings were cracked. I rebuilt it 8 years ago and I warm it up now every time and besides a block heater I invested in a oil heater also. Did you let those glow plugs heat up properly and did you not have it plugged in?

So , do other brand truck dealers have repair shops and techs that repair their vehicles? The State should pull your license because you must be blind if you can't see every brand being towed. Grow-up!
