Winter RV Camping In A Blizzard Ice Storm. I took Buddy the camper van up to 1700m to camp in what was forecast to be snow but turned into a major ice storm. Any rain that hit the van froze immediately. This was a tough camp. ❤️AB

Here's a trick from a Canadian. Get your self a plastic syringe with a plastic spout from the dentist's office and fill it with methanol or denatured alcohol. Squirt it into the seam of a frozen door and it will thaw immediately. I've opened my car door that way many times during the winter. You can also use the same trick to thaw a frozen lock.

Canadian here... you need a hood that comes forward and frames your face better. The hood on that coat is shaped wrong and allows the wind to get up under it.

I hate hoods period. It's a military jacket not a blizzard jacket. The hood is designed so you can still use your peripheral vision.

Hey T, I used a tarp or cover for my windshield and radiator to keep the freezing rain and wind at bay. Plus all you need to do is pull the cover and the ice will break. Same with the intrance door, may use some type of vestibule to protect your egress area. Just a tip, carry spare propane tanks and electric blankets.

Might have been an idea to park up close to the hut on the leeward side . The vents from the hut are expelling warm air . I used this technique to great effect during Falkland Islands winters .

Just a suggestion, but keep some isopropyl alcohol 70% or more with you for the ice. It will loosen the door if you put some around the door seal.

You should put the lights on when you start the truck, then by the time you need to get the ice off the lights would have melted the ice and your lights would work. The lights arnt modern LED lights, they are the old school ones that get HOT!

A lot of people think that just because it’s a snow tire it should be OK with ice. But nothing is OK with ice unless it’s stud and you can still very much skid with a studded tire on ice. You’re right though that the gravel is probably helping you as much as anything Nothing scarier than being on I 70 in the Rockies watching some, one from Texas fly by you in a four-wheel-drive thinking they’ll be fine. Inevitably you’ll see one of them in a ditch staring at their truck like, how did that happen?

Love your channel and that camper van has me thinking about our amazing VW California camper van.....BUT....'microwave dish'???? Is that safe to be camping near? Any antenna is a no no for us ....and 5G or microwaves....well....I'd have to just not camp there. It's a shame all the best spots seem to have antennas on them these days.....I'm old skool and would prefer less coverage and more disconnection....a radio or walkie talkie for emergencies perhaps but less cellular coverage.

How do you do with heat and sleeping at night??? I'm not going to have some fancy rv or camper if I can get one at all. If not. I'm homeless but I'm not gonna think that way!!!! Loads of gas. Multiple days. It’s freezing outside. Food would freeze solid. Fridges are not just used to keep items cold. They’re used to provide a controlled environment.
