If you have been watching my channel lately, you might recognise this property. The last 2 episodes before this were done on the drive around the other side. Basically, the whole place is a shambles, but unfortunately, I won't be able to do a full restoration on this property. I promised myself, for my own sanity, that I wasn't going to tackle blackberries on a large scale. But I really wanted to help out, so I did what I could out the front. I cleared some rubbish, did some pruning, a bit of mowing and just a general tidy up. It's not an overly long episode, but I did what I could to make the homeowners place a bit more livable. All up, I spent around 7 hours on this job, with 3 trips to the landfill included.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️.
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem the same?

Many years ago, I spent several weeks cleaning the fence line for my neighbor who’d just been dumping grass clipping and tree trimmings for years. Bees started making nests and they’re highly allergic to them. (Anaphylaxis). So over a period of weeks, I would clear it into their yard waste bin and my yard waste bin so a trip to the dump wouldn’t be required. I didn’t understand WHY they just wouldn’t put it into yard waste in the first place. They were very grateful and I managed to not get stung. Bless you for the work you do.

I can see keeping the cardboard. It's great to use as weed suppressant, but you have to break down the boxes and actually put them in the garden beds for it to do any good! It also helps with moisture retention and feeds the worms. The wood bits can be used to fill a raised bed, so you don't have to buy as much soil. But the cushions? Nah.

Small area --- HUGE mess. Great job! Yes, 3 videos for 1 yard, is above and beyond. Never saw a blackberry tree or bush or whatever, but if you say they are bad and backyard is nothing but them, you would have had to make a mini-series to cover that, plus a lot of Better Help, so can see why you did not. I just loved that the song you chose for the end reveal was called Morning Sunshine! It was so nice to see that place bathed in sunshine after your hard work trimming back and thinning the trees, not to mention everything else you did! Thank you so much for helping out this lady. That was such a steep section - very hard for you to keep going up and down, and probably very hard for the lady to manage. It would be great if she could advertise that chainlink coop. Someone could probably make great use of it. I was even thinking how great it would be to use a section of it to grow sweet peas or clematis up. I wanted the metal chicken area to go. I suppose it's up to the owner. I like some blackberries in my garden because in the summer the bees are all over them and love them and I eat them but I agree they can take over and be messy (am in UK)

I’m glad she decided to keep her garden beds then she has a glimmer of hope that they may be cultivated! We all need hope to spur us on! Some friends of mine had a big garden and knew they would only have time to do anything but maintain it. They noticed that there was an allotment area along their road and got in touch with the allotment society to volunteer their garden. Soon, the next person on the waiting list was up and running and leaving them fresh veg and cut flowers for the house!😊 I realise that this garden is possibly not suitable for that, but what about a gardening club member who specialises in plants for shade to experiment? Maybe a neighbour who has dogs in their garden would like to keep chickens? Sorry! I’m rambling on now! Nice to see extra cleanup on this property! Hopefully you can return to do more work during the rest of the year. I can see the futile feeling in addressing all the chaos in the yards and the driveway. The trash seems to be the main obstacle, and I am assuming that costs are incurred for disposal of same.
