I love Wu Jin Yan, but this is the best ancient Chinese dance they showed in a cdrama. I wonder why they don’t have extraordinary dances in their ancient/ historical dramas especially having Shen Yue performances worldwide, they have to have actresses that can seriously perform these.

the type of historical chinese dance you see here was inspired by turkish dances that were exchanged in the silk road period.. dancing wasnt exactly a high art performed by ancient noblewomen, more so by servants etc so it is expected that palace settings wouldnt have anything too full on, these scenes would be more expected in teahouses - also shen yue performances are very much modernised versions that are pitched for foreign audiences, and run by the falun gong...

@@glumpink4106 this drama is on the period time before qin Dynasty have United china .The era where china really did economy was first the tang dynasty, for this the Chinese used the dance of Persia because of Persian and Indian guests, but that had no technical influence on the Chinese dances and the example knew the Persian dance would not be changed either with Chinese influence.

the legend of haolan :) its a fictional spinoff about (haolan) the mother of qinshiguang - as she is a person will little to no historical record (her name is made up for this drama). However a lot of the other characters are based on real figures ! so its very satisfying to see how historian speculations weave their stories together :)

They don’t have heating heater or central air systems like today so clothes has to be thick to keep you warm. Just look at how open their architecture. Burning wood smells, and coals are expensive even Royals have an allotment to use monthly.

Lmao, they generally were thick, especially in the Imperial family. Most clothes back then had many layers and were crafted in such way to show patterns off, though silk was widely used too but that depends on Era and which clan was in power. Just google traditional Chinese clothes layers and you'll see. Basically they had upper and lower garments, inner and outter too. The inner consisted of a under shirt, bra sort of cut and thin skirt layers (for women), while the outter part consisted of the outter wear that had the following parts: collars, sleeves, buttons, fittings (belts and sashes to hold everything together). These were wrapped more than once and held with fittings to not fall off. On top of that they also wore a coat or jacket because it was seen as civilized and proper due to Confucious belief. The materials for that too depended on rank and power, so considering these are Imperial family members it makes sense that theirs are much complex then your average citizens. Add hats, headwear, ancessories and high, bun sort of hairstyles, cloaks and unique features of each Era and yeah, it'll look thick, almost difficult to wear in summer and totally uncomfortable for us modern women that are used to being free and comfortable lol. It took hours and help for many eunuchs/maids for Imperial members to get dressed and put everything together to present a clean, well-kept image, that I truly don't know how they could bother with it daily. Horrifying.
