When she said she almost had her mom call, it told me all I need to know

At least she got an email from the company instead of them not following up like some places that don't let the interviewer know an outcome.

This poor girls just started on the job market and hasn't been broken. I have had UHMAZING interviews and still didn't get the job. There's nothing we can do about it, all we can do is move on. As you get older you get used to rejection.

Lucky you got a response at all. And the fact that you even thought about having your mom reach out and now the very show shows you are not ready for that role. They are looking for professional adults. Not children.

100% this. If your mom is reaching out, then you're reinforcing that you're not the person for the role.

The apologizing thing is something that women do a lot. It’s a hard habit to break, but it will be worthwhile.

People seem to think they are on TV; perhaps a sit-com. They then behave like someone on a sitcom, making people laugh (she said she did that). I had to remind some of my HS students that they weren't on TV and that there wasn't an audience. It made a difference to them. I love my students! Grammar makes a difference to prospective employers also.

I interviewed for a job but didn’t get it. Got called a week later for a different position at the same company.

I agree with Mo, was she too friendly or not confident enough? They need to make up their minds. In this sense I agree it is a little unfair. Of course the fact that she said she was going to have her mom contact them, or that she suffers from anxiety is a bit ubiquitous, but you can't be overly confident and not confident enough

They might not respond but the mature thing to do is to just email and ask for constructive criticism. It’s not illegal to say anything on a reference call or to give feedback after an interview, it’s just that doing so could put the company in a difficult and potentially litigious situation if it’s not positive. That’s why many companies have a policy on reference calls of only stating the dates of employment, title, and basic information like that.

Next time, reach out to the hiring manager/administrator for constructive criticism. SOMETIMES it’s honestly that you’re not a good fit whether it’s personality or skill set. And that’s ok. I’m a supervisor and I have been on the side of hiring and I find that ALOT of recent grads expect to be given the job just bc they interview. And it’s just not the case. Take the L and move on. There was legit no reason for her to do this tbh. I hope she learns to just reach out without mom or radio to help. And YES! Do your research on the position and company you’re applying to! There were soooo many applicants that I’ve seen come thru, that do not know what the position is …

She may have ended up dodging a bullet. In some respects, I feel like that company would try to squelch her outgoing personality.

I had a similar situation with me except when I asked why I didn’t get the job, I offered a possible solution but this company NEVER responded. I know for a fact that I was qualified because I have 10 years of experience in the field(and it only asked for 2 years) I was applying for so being not qualified was not the reason. I have a feeling why I wasn’t hired but unfortunately I can’t prove it. I’ll just say it, I think I wasn’t hired because of discrimination. But like I said, I can’t prove it. The only way I can prove it is if someone who has less experience than me applies for the same position and then THEY GET hired. Then I’ll know for sure I was discriminated. Thankfully it was just a part time job and I do have a full time job. I just needed extra money to help pay for bills and stuff. Hopefully the caller learns from this experience and she will land a job soon.

From what it sounds like, you prob went in thinking you knew it all and was probably super cocky. Sounds like you went in and was already telling them how to change and what to do for improvements. I wouldn't have hired you either

Interviewing is a skill. Mass apply, sharpen your interview skills and get multiple offers. Don’t get stuck on this on rejection.

Caddy is wrong … again. 🙄 you are only legally allowed to answer yes or no questions, and whether you would rehire that person. You are not allowed to give any details or anything similar to that.😊
