One of the best quotes I saw in regards to him when he passed in 2018 was "whenever you feel low remember, you got to exist in the universe at the same time as David Bowie."

I will definitely agree with that. The world is a sadder place without him in it. The person I feel that way about now is Dimash Kudibergan. I've said, "Aren't we lucky to live in the time of Dimash??" Love them both (and a few others). Sending love from Baton Rouge!! 💙💙

Lots of artists are known to reinvent themselves to stay relevant as music changes. Nobody could reinvent themself like Bowie. Not only in his look, but also in his musical diversity. It's still hard to believe he's gone. He came to America for the first time when I was a kid. So his music has been a constant throughout my entire life. I've always loved his music and the movies he chose to be in. RIP and thank you for all that great music you left the world.

Bowie wrote this when he was in West Berlin with Iggy Pop, trying to beat his heroin addiction. The song is about the Berlin Wall separated families and lovers, the guns that shot overhead and sometimes killed people were fired from watchtowers by East German soldiers at people trying to flee from Communist East Berlin to West Berlin. If you want to listen to how good his backng musicians were, try "Boys Keep Swinging". The video for that is fantastic and pretty funny.
@MrMbashta
@MrMbashta 4 жыл бұрын
Regarding the backing musicians on "Boys Keep Swinging", drummer Dennis Davis and bassist George Murray swapped places on the track. Dennis's bass was so unsophisticated that Tony Visconti, long-time Bowie henchman, stepped in with his own bass-playing near the end of the track.

Bowie was a master of reinvention. He lived his life like he was a walking work of art, sometimes creating entirely new personas for each album. First hit was 1969. Last hit was in 2016 the weekend he died (and he planned it that way, knowing he was dying). An astonishing talent, a kind person, and greatly missed. I wish he was still here. Still upset by his death.

He was magic and left us with such treasures.

The day David left us, the world lost about one-fifth of its collective charm - the man was charisma personified! So glad you got to hear him with this band, his touring band were phenomenal. Catherine Russell - up back on keyboards, who can't stop laughing at the beginning - is a talented jazz singer and multi-instrumentalist. Gail Ann Dorsey - the bass player down the front, who David called baby - does an incredible version of Under Pressure, playing the bass riff while singing Freddie's part. Every musician up there with him is a beast in their own right.

I would suggest Golden Years, it's one of my absolute favorites and I think you would absolutely love it. Also, he performed Under Pressure with Queen, I think that would be a good one to check out as well. Bowie has been my personal hero since I was 13 years old and I'm 31 now. Most people who know me, know of my love for everything David Bowie. He was so far ahead of his time in music and style. I truly respected how he was always true to himself by recreating himself so many times instead of sticking with what got him fame. He was a true artist and honestly didn't care about what others thought about him as long as he was happy with himself. I strive to follow in his footsteps by loving myself and being true to myself no matter what opinions are thrown at me. I was absolutely devastated when he passed, but his legacy will last forever.

I love David Bowie (bo-wee). He wrote some great music, including Under Pressure with Freddie Mercury. David was a spectacle, everytime he came out with a new album he reinvented his character but that voice was so beautiful and unique. He played the most epic goblin king ever in Labyrinth (Dance, Magic, Dance is pretty much a universally loved song, and all you've got to do is say, "you remind me of the babe" to set every 80s baby in the room off singing), and his video for Blackstar was about as perfect as goodbyes get ❤

Oh, now you've done it. I clicked on this reaction faster than I did the one for Radiohead. Bowie was a multi-faceted artist, to say the very least. You're in for a lot of treats. (edit) I recommend "Fame" and "Let's Dance" next. And then.................. well, damn it. I'll get back to you.

David Bowie shared a birthday with Elvis Presley and he wrote the song Golden Years for him, which would have been amazing if it had happened. But you Must, MUst MUST do Under Pressure with Queen, the original video, it is considered the best collaboration ever recorded.

My 7th grade art teacher figuratively introduced me to David Bowie. His album “Young Americans” was the first of his I’d bought. John Lennon was a collaborator on that. “Fame” was fantastic. I had the “Low” album on 8-track for my car. And “The Man Who Fell to Earth” was the first rated R movie I’d gone to... with my parents. Not a good choice to see with my parents, but an excellent movie. I highly recommend you listen to/watch his video of “Wild is the Wind”. And my favorite is “Boys Keep Swinging” from his “Lodger” album. His passing was devastating. 💜💜💜

Everything Bowie is great! RIP David Bowie- I will say, I don’t understand some of the (I’m guessing Patreon) requests start with the lesser known songs- “Let’s Dance”, “China Girl”, “FAME” all should have been first. (I’m saying this in a nice way, can’t portray that by typing) Just my opinion- remember, Leo doesn’t even know who he is, so can we please do ☝🏼to get him familiar first? Bit more upbeat, especially with the fawnk- we know he likes that too- “Let’s Dance” would be perfect! Please-✌️✨. Mr. Video- it is pronounced like Bow, as is bow tie-

Bowie has been my Only Love since I was 12 yrs. Old. That's 38 years I've never appreciated any musician More than Him! He's Amazing! His talent is endless and timeless. Please listen to Wild is the Wind if you want Pickle Skin GooseBumps!! When he died it felt like I lost something deep. I had friends messaging me and asking if I was okay. I cry hard to Space Oddity and the Black Star Album. P. S. I adore your reactions! I might need your p. o. Box so I can send Black Star to you..

"I, I can remember Standing, by the wall And the guns shot above our heads And we kissed, as though nothing could fall And the shame was on the other side Oh, we can beat them, forever and ever Then we could be heroes, just for one day" Let's just hope this memorializes a dark time, and doesn't become relevant again. I'm scared we're getting closer.

There's another song that serves as a kind of sequel to this one called Teenage Wildlife. It's a fan favorite non-single and it's built off of an outtake of the main riff. Absolutely phenomenal and just as much worth doing as any massive hit, but with more intense lyrics and a lot of spirit.

David Bowie might be the most important artist of the 20th century. Changes, Life on Mars, Fame, Moonage Daydream, Ashes to Ashes... The number of great songs, the range of songs. I just wish I was old enough to have seen in the 1970's.
