doing this technique is the only thing that worked on my rescue dog who’d been struggling with severe separation anxiety for years in our house. she broke multiple crates, metal and plastic, and the neighbors called the cops on multiple occasions due to her barking. she would foam at the mouth and lose her voice. when we stopped greeting her with screeches of love and kisses, (it was so hard), after some time she completely stopped the panic attacks! maybe it only works on some dogs, but it saved mines mental health!

@@-lee-2867 it absolutely can. Some dogs it doesn't matter but most rescue dogs are susceptible to this. You can tell though if they start getting overly anxious when you leave. If you make your entry and exit normal they don't have to freak out that they're never gonna see you again. And you can still freak out over them 10 minutes after you come home and they will be just as excited lol they just won't connect you leaving as a bad thing. Source: me and anyone who's ever worked with "problem" dogs. ( Not the golden retrievers who have to be trained to sit, the problem dogs that eat furniture and doors if you leave them alone. The dogs that pee themselves if they see boots. The dogs that won't stop barking)

But they didn't realize that giving him the highest possible peacefulness value meant that if he became more peaceful, the number would "overflow" and flip from something like 127 to -127. This made Ghandi by far the most aggressive nuclear menace in the game. One moment he would be a happy little fella, and then next the only limit to his wrath would be the amount of nukes in his arsenal. It was so hilariously backwards that the developers have made him use nukes aggressively in every game since.

Vet tech student here. The second point about separation anxiety is true, and those are the training methods used to help reduce separation anxiety in pets. That doesn’t mean you don’t greet your pet at all, you just wait until you notice your pet being settled down. It’s all about NOT making a big fuss when leaving and returning home since it is a normal part of life
