Caregivers do way more than “wipe butt” they walk with the patient and help them do the exercises that the therapist recommends between therapy visits. The therapist also trains the caregivers on how to apply splints, braces and other devices so they can be applied between visits and when therapy stops working with the patient. The worst type of crying wasn't the kind everyone could see--the wailing on street corners, the tearing at clothes. @@gabrielle916 ik, I think this is all sensitive and new to her and she doesn't want to be labeled stereotyped or made to feel weak. Alot of people, especially in the black community, are caregivers and don't even realize it. We realized that when I was working at a job recently with the Senior Population. We just think it's something normal we r doing or we're doing what we got to do but really we are caregivers. It's important to know because it is stressful and there are resources out there for caregivers and the people that we care for

@Ash2beauty Жыл бұрын
I’m a therapist and former CNA, no disrespect but we are not the same, therapists strictly go to school to specialize in strengthening upper and lower extremities, a caregiver is not anywhere near as skilled and will come get the therapists to help w/ things outside their scope of care. Also caregivers do not do much mobility training at all, especially since restorative aides aren’t really a thing anymore at most facilities.

Well when someone is disabled because of tragedy they don't just get use to it. It is an extreme life adjustment and the situation that put her there is extremely, extremely traumatic! I can't believe the mean spirits and lack of empathy in this comment section. Whoever that man she was with he obviously was an integral part of her life, they had 3 children together, it sounds like he left her after she was shot and disabled because he couldn't handle it, that is trauma on top of trauma. She is not comfortable in the position she's in and seems determined to walk again which is normal. It's also normal to really not accept a condition that someone you may have loved, left because they didn't accept it.
