I miss 90s Mariah, I remember the first time I heard this song. It was at the 98 American music awards. She was in Tokyo and couldn’t come, so she performed via satellite and also won an award. Great time to be alive. I was totally blown away. Had to go find the song quickly. She’s one of the greats

Okay so now PLEASE react to “lead the way” it’s considered to have one of IF NOT HER BEST vocals EVER!! Ik it seems like we say this abt damn near every Mariah song but in reality it’s just a few of them, some of which you’ve reacted to already, like Emotions and Forever. My All is also pretty insane. But I’d say Lead the Way is EASILY top 3 vocally. It actually went viral on TikTok a couple of years ago for its insane vocals at the end, and ppl made it into a challenge to sing it.

I love Ariana, but this is why the comparisons annoy me... Mariah Carey was 27 here, 3 years younger than Ariana is today and this sounds fully grown, fully realized, and fully her own. Ariana still seems stuck in a teeny boppy lane and doesn't make music for adults or with real depth.
