In all fairness, it doesn't seem like anything will happen on the romance side for a bit for a few years, so think of it as sort of being betrothed for X years vs. doing anything. ( I'm not gonna even go near the historical examples or possible cultural differences as even I don't want to go there on those thoughts. But just know, I think that it's probably something on the Japanese culture side on the thing you're worried about. )
