I had a massive collection of pony stories, some of which I still have (Ruby Ferguson, the Pullein Thompson sisters, K M Peyton etc) plus all the informative stuff like the Pony Club 'Keeping a pony at Grass' and Glenda Spooner 'Instructions in Ponymastership'. Every year I was convinced I was going to win the W H Smith 'Win a Pony Competition' because I was so well read!

There was this girl at my riding school who was absolutely obsessed with my horse. OBSESSED. Because my riding school is public and the rule with leasing horses was anyone could ride them. Anyways, I had a lesson one morning. Got him in from the paddock, was grabbing his gear to tack up. Found this girl already grooming him. She was volunteer help at the school. I said thank you and that I could tack him up but she wouldn't stop insisting. Eventually I felt bad for her because she couldn't afford lessons and she obviously loved horses. My horse then was a 7 year old ottb and he was funny with the way his girth was done up. She insisted she could do it, that she knows how e.g so I agreed then went to get my gear. Came back out, mounted him and started to go towards the arena. I noticed he was incredibly tense and the saddle felt off. Stupidly I didn't check before I got on but the lesson started and I didn't want to be late. Got down to the dressage arena with my group, started to warm up and I realized his saddle was on wrong. I got off, readjusted (It was sitting almost on his flank) and as I was doing this, noticed the big mud patches under his saddle/girth area. This girl didn't brush him well so my poor horse was uncomfortable plus the saddle being on wrong. I didn't let her touch him after that. I forgot to mention that he had a thin coat so was prone to hair rubbing in places.

This random kid in my neighborhood showed up while I was lunging my mare. She climbed on my fence and told me my horse was pretty so I said “Thanks, but she spooks easily so please go home” the girl rolls her eyes and says “can i ride it” I look at her and say “honey, do you have a death wish?” her eyes got huge and she ran away. ah the joys of owning a mare.

Haha, this reminds me of myself, nearly 10 years ago. So we we're moving and our new neighbour had a few ponies, still has some of them. I was already at a riding school at that time after being a vaulter for years so I had my fair share of horse experience. But the riding school was too far away from my new home and that was that. But our new neighbour had ponies, as I already said. So my parents allowed me to go there and ask if I could help around with these ones. So a friend and me had been roaming around the new area and stopped by the field of my new neighbour. We just watched the horses and talked when he came out to bring the ponies in for the night. We just asked if it would be possible to help around with the ponies once or twice a week. We didn't even had riding on our minds back then. Just wanted to be allowed around the horses. A week later he came up to us and said that we could come around whenever we want. Just riding is on our own account as long as our parents are allowing it. These four years had been a great time and I hold all of these memories dearly in my heart. Sometimes I really miss riding "my" two dumbheads, even though I got two troublemakers of my own by now. But it's great to still see them every day on the field and being able to just say Hi =)

Now that kids, is why I don't talk to strangers 😂 OMGOSH, this reminded me of an experience I had about a year ago. So, I had just finished feeding my mustang that morning, and wanted to spend time with him, so I start brushing him, and just kinda talkin to him. and then I hear the fence rattle (I live right next to a park, and that's the fence that made a noise) so I turn around, and there is this FIVE YEAR OLD GIRL, TRYING TO SCALE THE FENCE RIGHT NEXT TO MY HORSE'S PEN! (I also keep my mustang at my home, so I could keep a close eye on him) So I get startled, and started walking towards this girl, and asked her what she was doing. she replied with a "I saw you brushing your horse, and I'm going to come help" so I tell her that she "Sadly cant help, because my horse is still wild" (which he really wasn't, but this is A RANDOM KID) and she goes "But I see girls in Heartland brush each others horses all the time!" and so I repeat that he is still in training, and that maybe she could help next time. so she gets off the fence, and GLARES at me for the next five minutes before walking away. AND LIKE, WHERE WAS HER PARENTS? I HAVE NO CLUE! So I mean, I wish parents could keep a closer eye on their kids, especially when there is horses nearby! (I live in a little farm community, you cant go anywhere without there being like 8 horses in one spot) And my mustang was such a a sweetie the whole time. Rest In Peace, Pineberrie ❤

@@rushellealexandra5243 It depends on the horse. Horses are highly variable between individuals. Some horses need to retire when they’re in their 20’s, some don’t. The first horse I ever rode was a pony named Sunshine, and she was about 30 when I did. She was slow and sweet.

Honestly if you put in effort alot of horse people are willing to help you out because we've all been there (or most of us!). The video is poking fun at the people who say they want to help but don't actually, they just want to ride without learning or doing any work 🤣 I have found that alot of horse people are very generous if you're willing to be respectful and a teachable student!
@cyflym113 жыл бұрын
Well firstly she was pushy, and secondly you don't realise the crushing weight of responsibility when an obvious beginner is around your horse! They turn up in flip flops, the walk right behind them with no warning, they wrap lead ropes round their hands, walk into the middle of a herd with a handful of carrots and all sorts of other heart-stopping things! They may think they are offering to help but the reality is they are the opposite of helpful because they turn you into a nervous wreck. Yes I have let people come and help with my horse and I always let little children pet him in the street because I'm not heartless, but I'm still thinking 'please don't step on her tiny toe'!

We (my family) have horses on our own property, that needs to be entered trough a gate (the pasture does not lead to a road, it is surrounded by farmlands that are private property). And young girls keep trying to enter our property to pet/ feed/ groom our horses, it is honestly disgusting that some are so persistand. We protect our horses from these needy, entitled strangers because they don't actually know anything about horses. They don't see the problem with horses eating random herbs by the road (some of which are lethal where I live!), they don't know how to groom properly, they don't even know basic horse etiquet. And they only do it to treat the horse like a mashine that is made to ferry humans. Horses deserve so much better than that.

I appreciate horse riding and everything but I'm riddled with anxieties about falling or doing something wrong and hurting the horse and even if I were to ride I could for example never imagine going trail riding alone. I could however imagine walking a horse. horses are just really neat animals and I like being around them. This is why if I ever do get one, I get a shetland - all the horse grooming, caring, cleaning with none of the riding!
