That's been their goal day one. They didn't rig that election because they thought Fitz would make a good president. They did it to get themselves in the white house. Fitz was their meal ticket. What kills me is that in the comments people act as though Mellie asked Olivia to be there to fix the problem.. it’s clear that Mellie doesn’t want Liv there and even if Olivia can “fix” or “handle” the situation better than Mellie, when Tom walked into the room, they were all surprised that Sally was on the phone. Olivia, no matter how much she wanted to stay out of it, also knew that her involvement would create more suspicion. And as for Mellie, no matter her trepidation, she wanted to come up with the best solution without Liv’s help- the moment on the phone with Sally was enough to buy time. No matter how much people try to discredit Mellie, she is smart and a “political animal”. It may not have been a long term solution but at the time, but I think Mellie’s solution until Fitz woke from his coma was significant.

Listen when Olivia walked in Mellie had this look on her face like what the hell is she doing here? Nobody called Olivia. Remember Edison told her about the reinstatement letter and so she thought Fitz was awake. Left Edison in her apartment and rushed to the hospital to see her boo honey. Cyrus sent a text but I think that the only reason why they are allowing her there is because she's apart of the fast five of the rigging of the election. Mellie wasn't losing her place in the white house and neither was Cyrus
