She left the UK to started a Fashion company In Nigeria is another subset of my promoting African Entrepreneur series called "Small Business Stories" where I feature black owned companies all across Africa who have built successful businesses and they tell us how they did it.
Over the past couple months I have shared stories of different African entrepreneurs who have been able to build big successful businesses despite the numerous challenges on our continent.
I believe small business are also as important to our economy which is why over the next 3 weeks I will be featuring 6 small businesses on this new series on my channel called “Small Business Stories”.
Today's episode is Chineku who is a Nigerian entrepreneur who currently on a journey to taking a large market share in the Fashion industry. She tells us about how she was able to build her business in Abuja Nigeria while taking us through some of the challenges she has faced on her entrepreneurial journey.
She also shows us how she has been able to leverage on the internet to grow her business.

So she went to do a Masters in Aston Business School. Wah!! Expensive for learning academia. Next, she went into fashion. Yulk. Do you have design skills using the computer. Learning design software (not paper based). Learning the 8 different sewing machines. Learning fabric designs that is Nigeria/Ghana influences and colour. Next using your business degree. How do you commercialise the fashion range. Do you have the economies of scale design to make it cost effective for Nigerian wallets. Sourcing fabric that is particular for Nigeria from China (bamboo, cotton and absorbent fabrics). I note the fashion is classical or olddish. What about the younger demographics and working girl suits and dresses. Surely, you need to spread the range to more European Clothing and of course leggings and tops. To make an impact of Brand Awareness. A range of Shoes from Vietnam (cheap). Beauty Products and Accessories. Creating your own Makeup range with LaKmi in India for the darker tone. Then to produce in Nigeria the clothing when the economies of scale is achieved. That is DESIGN THINKING formulae that is NOT taught in Aston Business School. Lastly, you need Capital and the demanding Marketing Skills to promote the fashion Brand. Lastly, EXPORT TO the Nigerian Diaspora. Need a e-commerce software for FREE . With all the infrastructure available to us in the US, it is still challenging to start and run a successful business. The business challenges are similar in Nigeria but probably ten to a hundred times more difficult. Kudos to you all Nigerian small business owners. We appreciate your work Taiyo. Just a suggestion, for a better pro title, no need using the word "he left the UK, America...." to Nigeria or Africa to build for self entrepreneurship. That title is becoming boring because its too commonly used. As African, yea, we do travel for leisure and experience but it doesn't make Africa inferior to the outside world. During the interview, the person experience could reflect his or her story of living outside of the Motherland. It doesn't necessarily has to be a tittle anymore because its too commonly used. Truth is, most Africans diasporans, the training they had in Africa is actually what has help them survive in abroad. Another truth is that, living oversea, it doesn't mean you're smarter or richer than those living in Africa. Each continent, nation has its advantages and disadvantages. Africa has greater advantages than disadvantages. It all depends on your state of mind. Kudos
