Living is challenging, it doesn't matter where you are from. We all have different challenges in life, but living in a ghost town is a challenge unlike any other. There is no electricity, no running water, no bars or night clubs, and certainly no Walmart. But you will find, there is happiness. There is a gratification in life, when what you need to survive is met by what you can achieve with your own hands. Fishing for food, having a well for water, solar panels for electricity. In Canada and USA, most of us can not even imagine this lifestyle, and it saddens me that humanity has lost the ability to "survive". In Puertecitos, people are truly surviving, and happy doing it. I love meeting new people, and learning about their stories and cultures, and my time with Xochitl, in Puertecitos is a time I will not forget. If you are every traveling on the Baja Peninsula, be sure to spend at least one night in this town, and stop to say hi to Xochitl at Las Palmas Market.
Leaving Puertecitos, I was really just hunting for adventure, and this time it was hard to find. I went to Bay of LA, in search of fishing opportunities, but all I found was wind. I went to Guerrero Negro in search of whales, but what I found was regulations. With no other option, I continued south and found myself in the wonderful oasis of San Ignasio. San Ignasio is a town in the centre on the peninsula, surrounded by desert, but singled out by the fact that it is the location of a large fresh water spring. For hours you will drive and see nothing but cactus and rocks, until you are welcomed by the sight of luscious green palm trees. This is where I finally found my adventure. I put the boat in the water and went for a paddle. It was so nice to be able to just float and paddle my way through this spring, with no wind or waves. I paddled my way right to the end, and was surprised to find the source of the spring, and a beauty I can not even describe. I may spend a few days here enjoying the beauty of this place, but I do have a surprise in the works. I hope you all enjoyed this episode, and I hope you may consider supporting on Patreon: / destinationadventure

Ok. Xochitl is one of the most amazing people! She has every reason to be down in the dumps but is richer than anyone with her more simplistic life (not saying its easier). She is just such a refreshing person! i dont think you could ever have a bad day around her! love your great videos!!

In the beginning the lady still living where she grew up. I envy, if you're not happy with nothing, nothing will make you happy, I always say. Like the tribes deep in the Amazon rain forest. No taxes, no Utility Bills, no high gasoline prices on and on. They've been there forever and have everything they need.

The trick is that he lets them tell the stories themselves. He makes it about them, not him. Too many interviewers want to hear themselves ask questions, but Dustin understands that the stories are more intimate & compelling when there's just one voice....as if they're talking to us, not him.

What a lovely person Xochitl is! There is something to be said for a life lived simply. A simple life does not entail a life without meaning or hardship, just less distraction from what makes us happy. A bit of white knuckle driving on that road for sure--EEK! --and add the wind! Double EEK! Your "burros" sounded like bullfrogs to me. As always, thank you so much for taking us along for this beautiful ride!

Every time I watch your videos I’m super impressed with the amount of work. All those shots of you riding your bike or boating or driving the RV all mean you had to stop setup a camera go back bike, boat or drive by, and then go back and get the camera. It all looks smooth and seamless but man that’s gotta be a ton of work. I learned about it from “survivor man”

14:30 that isn't a crane. It is a Pacific Great Blue Heron. they are magnificent birds.. The Heron winters in South America, breeds in Canada, and year rounds in most of the USA. The heron also nests in trees, instead of on the ground. They are similar to the Great Egret.

brings back great driving memories. The potholes were outrageous. And the no shoulder roads, you have my admiration in that rig of yours. Drone shots must add a couple hours extra to the drive time each day. I loved BOLA but it has a dark underbelly of crime that is confirmed and deadly - gringos included.

Ignacio literally means firey. There is also a San Ignacio in Sinaloa on the mainland. It is famous for its mineralized hot springs, but I think the one in Baja is not known for such. You could try to go ask Jane Ames, who is the local town historian. She lives at Casa Leree, built in 1885. I tell you this because it is right up your alley of finding local experts. She is also a writer and has the largest collection of books on Baja to be found anywhere.

Wind power would actually be easier then solar. You could make a simple 12 volt system, using a large vehicle alternator with a voltage regulator built into it. Then some batteries. I think about these things. Fresh water could be distilled from salt water via the sun. It does not take much.
