I'm white, and I have absolutely NO guilt for people whose ancestors were slaves. I had NOTHING to do with slavery. My family of 6 children, with my single, uneducated mother raising us children, grew up just as poor as the blacks did. We actually lived in the backwoods in the South, in the neighborhoods with the poor and mistreated black people. The blacks were discriminated against when we lived in their communities, and the people claiming discrimination today, HAVE NO IDEA WHAT DISCRIMINATION IS, OR WAS. My ancestors came to America in the 1700's, and some of them came here to be servants to the elite in this country. Many white people from Europe had to come here because they were basically sold to serve the wealthy families living here, or to work in the textile industries, and other industries that needed cheap laborers. White women and children were used to do those jobs and were paid the bare minimum, rarely enough to feed or care for their own. I owe no one of any race anything other than love and to treat them with common decency. Get a job and make it work for you and your families. Figure out what you can do to get where you want to go, without expecting others to give it to you, no matter what race, color or class you are in.

You are correct when you say that you don't owe Black people anything. However, the government is an entirely different animal. And since even after slavery ended, Black people in particular suffered because of laws in which the government wrote, then the government has to make it right. Imagine if you had a lawsuit against the government for wrongdoing, but you died before it was finalized. Wouldn't you want your family to get whatever was owed to you? I think it's fair to say that the former slaves and all the so-called free Blacks during the Jimcrow error had a right to sue the government but never got a chance. America sends money 💰 and rights wrongs to everyone except their own. I'm for a one-time reparations to all existing Blacks living in America today who are the descendants of Slaves. The picture of ICE-T, and self-proclaimed black person, on the cover of O.G. is lighter skinned than my father, who was considered "white." Asian? Go to Japan and tell them they're "Asian," essentially the same race as the Chinese and see how far that gets you. In China, the northerners, the "Han" Chinese, look down on the southern Chinese, and both look down on non-Chinese. The notion of race is childish in today's age, but also very natural, as the recognition of the "other" by visual cues is a genetic predisposition. That said, we are not animals, and can make conscious choices. Racists are a-holes.

The statement she made about slavery was not a racial thing is absolutely true. One of my majors is history and I will never forget one black history professor taught us that point so vividly. He ask us why were slaves black? Majority answer was they could tolerate southern heat better. He said, "no the black man gets as hot, or hotter than, white folks. The true reason is it is for identification. Since there were few free blacks, if you saw a black person, you could probably say he was a run away slave." So it was for identification of their economic investment. He was so good, to this day he is still one of my favorite professors because he used things to make his courses enlightening.

I was reading an article in the US News and World Report must be 20 years ago. That article said that more people had voluntarily immigrated to the US from Africa in a period of about 20-30 years than were brought to the US under bondage in all the decades of slave trade. So, a further question should be can all Black Americans line up for reparations even if their parents or the young people came to America voluntarily in the recent past.

She mentioned that a number of slave owners were black. In fact, the first recorded court case determined that a black man (John Casor) was owned by Anthony Johnson, also a black man. In fact the practice was legal in most of the world until 1828 when Great Britain outlawed the practice. The U.S. did not officially follow suit until 1863 when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. In the Roman era it was not uncommon for a citizen to be declared a slave and sold. It saved the state having to feed, clothe and house a prisoner for a long period.

Doc you are absolutely right on this. I am Native American from the Osage Tribe. Our land and way of life was stripped from us. Not to mention the reign of terror bestowed on the Osage Nation when they struck oil. Hundreds were murdered for their wealth at the hands of mainly the white man.
