if want some context for the movie (not really much to spoil, plot is really basic): in thailand, elephants are sacred in old tradition, main character Kham (Tony Jaa) and his father, and family, still care for the elephants (their family going way back to using the elephants in war with them fighting with, and protecting, the elephants for the king), but thailand is getting more industrial/commercial, and a corrupt business company sells/cooks/restaurants exotic foods. They try to, and succeed in, stealing Kham's family's elephants, with I think the father elephant getting killed, along with Kham's father too getting killed, and the mother elephant and the baby elephant getting stolen. So, Kham goes to rescue his elephants (mother and baby) from the corrupt business company, and ultimately tracks them down, seeing the mother elephant, as a trophy statue of its bones, having been killed, and maybe its meat eaten'ed, while keeping her bones as the trophy statue, so this is why he's letting himself get beaten up, as he's in grief over seeing his beloved mother elephant as just a trophy statue of her bones.
