I think I and a lot of folks were misled at first watch....When I was watching toward the end with the painting, her teacher and her dad. Her makeover wasn't just the clothes or hair, but how she felt about herself and ultimately other people. Her insecurity and lack of confidence led to her being really impartial toward others. It was partially due to how she felt inside, with her mom etc. - it showed in her demeanor. It's just like when people, or average beauties wear the plain clothes but when they feel really good about themselves and life, it makes them more attractive.
@liamholloway-sw7eu7 жыл бұрын
So true these movies even when they’re cheesey and such actually can give you a lot of life lesion. I watched Dawson’s creek when I grew up and one of the characters said once great people the way you want to be treated and that like totally changed my perspective on myself and how I should act because I wasn’t the nicest kid I mean I got bullied at shook myself but I wasn’t the loner who didn’t stand up for himself I would give it back and be just as Nasty because I thought that’s what I had to do without realising it made me just as bad

I do really like this movie, it brings back good memories :-) What I don't like is the fact that she is supposed to be a complete nerd, and what Hollywood does is choose a girl with a good body, an extremely pretty face, excellent skin and teeth, make her wear "nerdy" clothes and glasses, and cast her as the "nerd". This will make loads of people feel inadequate.
@rexydallas8D10 жыл бұрын
Just because someone's smart/"a nerd" doesn't mean they have to look unattractive... and, inversely being attractive does not mean someone can not be smart/"a nerd".
@knaankos10 жыл бұрын
rexydallas8D but what is unrealistic is that Laney was apparently so unattractive and unhip that she was the "hands down winner" of the bet, which is of course just nonsense
@josh74959 жыл бұрын
I agree, but this actually isn't unrealistic, this absolutely gorgeous girl from highschool who hungout with a crowd that my group didn't even bat an eyelash towards (douchey I know but high school cmon) when I saw her at my senior prom, I fell in love, she was and has always been gorgeous I just never noticed, and I regret not saying anything to her now. Gahhhhh
@liamholloway-sw7eu7 жыл бұрын
Trust this is high school. I new girls that’s got ripped in the first few years one was called frog eyes and pigskin and then went on to be super popular and pretty sexy I admit myself even after I called her frog eyes in first year of high school. And tbh she’s not even a nerd in this movie like she says she’s not smart more of a dork. But high school is funny because the popular so called good looking kids are usually miserable when they grow up and the loners losers geeks actually find like minded people and have good lives.
@liamholloway-sw7eu7 жыл бұрын
Well when they choose laney they don’t actually say much about her appearance other than she’s scary as shit. I think it’s oretry clear that even douchebag dean dosent think she’s ugly because there aren’t many actual ugly pellets in the world ugly is like something you can’t look at straight.

I think it wasn't about changing her natural look. She just didn't care about looks or anything else, because in fear of being hurt, she drove away people and potencial experiences from her life. She was very beautiful before the change, maybe even more than after it, but she wasn't happy with herself. She was an amazing artist, but she never opened herself, she never expressed her true-self. But later, her teacher told her that the portrait of her mother was a beautiful piece of art, because she finally opened to others. And even Laney told Zack she felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty woman, which means, I believe, that she is happier with herself and she likes the change she went through. It wasn't right to push her so harshly to that change, but he didn't take away who she is, he just helped her to be happy with everything she is and discover more in herself.
