Natural term nursing. Americans are weird about weaning our kids. My daughter had heart issues, I had multiple doctors including one of the best pediatric cardiologists in the country tell me that not only did nursing my toddler do her a ton of good, at a couple points it saved her from a feeding tube when she was Addie's age. If you look at tooth and gut development and compare us to other mammals, humans are meant to nurse way past Addie's age--the only reason we don't is a social convention that has told us mother's breasts are for sex, not mothering.

I was diagnosed in 1977, the difference in treatment between then and now is like a different planet! In 2nd grade I had to get my blood drawn from my arm in the hospital before school because there was no home glucose testing. I did injections from 1977 until 2004 when I got my first pump! About 10 years ago I figured out how many finger pokes and injections I had over my lifetime and it was well over 100,00😮 Tell your sister to rock on with her bad self!

@ReesieandLee My niece was just diagnosed this past Tuesday after going into ketoacidosis and being rushed to 2 hours away because we are in a rural area of Wisconsin. I am a Pharmacy Technician so I instantly started pushing for an insulin pump and CGM. They will be running the Dexcom through insurance on Monday to see what the price will be. If it's a decent price we are transferring the script into my Pharmacy so I can always plan ahead and make sure she has her supplies. If there is something holding us back I will be walking my family through the financial assistance program process. Omnipods will be next. I can't imagine how it was back in the 70s. I am determined to make my nieces life as normal as humanly possible. I dont want anything to hold her back in life. She is only 5, she has alot of life in her. Currently she is getting pricked upwards of 7 times a day right now as my whole family is very new at this and want to be absolutely sure of her BG readings. My poor niece needs her Dexcom Stat so my family can leave her little poor fingers alone.

Quick suggestion. Invest in numbing cream if you ever worry about pain. I recommend prilocaine/lidocaine. It numbs the nerves and she won't even feel the needle. Anyone that's afraid of needles , try some numbing cream. Just put the cream on, wrap the area in plastic wrap so that it gets deep into the skin and let it sit for like 30 minutes. Won't feel a thing. I'm a patient care tech at a dialysis clinic and that's what they use. The needles are pretty thick. So I know it'll be a game changer for these little pods. EDIT: Make sure to wash the area after removing the wrap and then wipe it down with an alcohol pad to insure the area is sterile.

I used to use this as a little kid when I first started on insulin pump therapy, the problem is that it takes time to come into effect and when it's a little kid who is already anxious about needles, sitting there thinking about it for half an hour is not a good time. Using your child's private medical conditions as a way to make money isn't a good idea. Child exploitation. She's too young to consent. This is very bad parenting.
@toca_slay_queen2 ай бұрын
This is a channel for awareness. Lots of parents make KZbin channels about their child's medical condition to make people aware. Just look at a channel like Lexi's Leukemia Warriors. They make videos mainly so people are aware of Lexi's condition, not for the money. It's the same thing with this channel. Although the owners of both this channel and Lexi's Leukemia Warriors make money, it's not the main reason why they make videos. This channel is a vlog channel too so that's why the mom constantly shows Addie going through the same thing in each video

trust issues when sleeping will be calling in a few years. Trauma builds off everything. I hope she takes the constant needling and poking like a queen and is fine later.
@krystaldispatchbetttymcgin7702 Жыл бұрын
Shes a type one diabetic. Needles are going to be a part of her life, the rest of her life. Its better to do it while they are asleep so they dont thrash around. A baby that young doesnt understand why its being done. Sorry but "needling and poking" is what is keeping her alive.

It's not just me who thinks this is inappropriate for the wider KZbin audience, is it? Not saying these videos aren't important, just the vulnerability your child entrusts to you seems like moments not meant for anyone but her family and friends?

Totally agree. I often wonder why some parents feel a need to post so much about their children. It’s like they think they’re the first ones to ever have cute kids. If this one is to be educational, and I understand there might be a need, it could be done with more of a closeup of the area and not identifying the child.
@LovesLakes11 ай бұрын
@@bugr0ttz if the intent is to be educational, it could be done by not showing the whole child or using her name. The camera could focus solely on the area where the pod is. That’s all that’s necessary.

Your conent that you get paid from shouldn't include your child. Gross. This is her medical journey, not something for you to gain notoriety from. One or two changes is great for education but it's every change. People don't need to see this.
@kathyryder828 Жыл бұрын
Parents shouldn't post videos of their kids at all. Children can't provide informed consent for having videos of themselves posted on social media. Videos like these aren't necessary at all. Education for parents of diabetic kids can be provided by health professionals.

My heart goes out to you. I am a retired RN and a type 2 insulin dependent diabetic. As I am sure you know every thing you eat or drink shows up in your breast milk. On one hand no sugar for you as well as your daughter. Good Momma. In the last July I opened a 20yr.old skin graft on my shin from a car accident. I got Sepsis was on 3different antibiotics for a month in a IV. I had a pic line so easy . The antibiotics ruined my stomach and I lost 47pounds. Good thing since I lost all the weight my blood sugar levels are awesome. Using Lantus every other day. And only humalog 4 units at most. My doctor even was able to cut my BP meds in half. Bad thing no Dexcom for a yr. No I watch for low blood sugar levels.

@alesbianhotmess I get your concern about her privacy. But seriously, the video can be taken down later her, or her family, decides it's not appropriate to keep it up. spreading awareness and education about diabetes is important, and many parents of diabetic children choose to share their experiences online to access a supportive community and help others going through similar situations. it's up to the child and their family to decide what they are comfortable with sharing publicly.

@@ero_dynamic_dominionYep also pain receptors aren't so awake either. I suffer from chronic pain and there is no pain while asleep. If someone wakes me up quickly instead of gradually. My pain hits me like a freight train. I take my time waking up so my pain comes back on more slowly as my brain wakes up... and I stay in bed watching stuff until my pain is back under control at a more manageable level. That wake up pain is a beast.
