Join me for a day in the life of a doctor and find out what a night shift in the hospital is like! For the first time ever, my husband Mark and I were on call together in the same hospital. He was on call for obstetrics and gynaecology and I was on call for internal medicine.
HUGE thank you to Mark for vlogging a super busy call shift!
Thank you to Grand River Hospital for their support!

@@Yesica1993 hehe, you make time. I am a medical student and I met my husband after 1 month in my first year of medical school. Medicine students and doctors have less time than other people, but we have our time too, it's all about priorities, how you choose to use the little time you get in your schedule. My first date with my husband, back then my boyfriend, was at 8 p.m., after 12 straight hours of faculty. Sacrificies and priorities. Doctors also have a life 😍 It just requires more discipline and organization of our life, to be able to squeeze everything in.

But he was on his way to the hospital for a call shift so it was just a couple of seconds.

My gosh I wasn't expecting to be flooded with memories watching this today. My daughter was born with meconium aspiration syndrome and had to be incubated. I was told she had a 50/50 chance of surviving the first 24 hrs. By the grace of God and all the wonderful doctors and nurses she did survive. When Mark was saying he heard that beautiful sound of baby crying the memories of not hearing my baby cry flooded back like it was yesterday but this was in 1985. I just have so much admiration for doctors and nurses and Siobhan's videos gives us a tiny glimpse of the unbelievable work doctors do on a daily basis. Thank you! 💕

I love Siobhan's videos!! This collaboration with her husband Mark was neat too because you can see two different types of physicians and get a look at their unique perspectives and challenges. Not going to lie though, I can't believe that it never occurred to me that there is an "on call room" for the doctors who are on call to rest/decompress. I just assumed that they would be moving from one patient to the next the entire time. I'm relieved to know that is not the case lol

When I was working as an RN in a Level 1 Trauma hospital I loved working with the residents on the medical wards. They were always nice and easily reached when needed. I almost always get the order that I request for our patients and since I was on day shift the residents were right there on the unit I can literally grab them to talk to the patient or if my pt was not doing well. I appreciated the residents for their long hours, commitment and I heard they do not make alot until they’re actually an attendant.

Nick The Music Snob you’d definitely have a lot more pressure to do well in life, when your parents do really well all you can do is try to one day reach their level. It kind of sucks to realise that you might never be able to do better than them. Personally I think flexing your parents is tacky, it’s not like you did anything but get lucky enough to be born to them. There’s no sense in flexing other people’s work, it just makes everyone around you think you’re a spoiled brat and not respect you.

I’ve never experienced that type of pain in my life which says a lot since i went through natural delivery. I would’ve preferred another all natural birth versus the pain i was experiencing from my tube being twisted from the teratoma…wildly enough even after seeing it on an ultrasound, telling me it could rupture and kill me, and NOTHING they gave me stopped the pain, i was still sent home. I went back less than 24hrs later and had emergency surgery. Worst medical experience i ever had. You could tell they assumed i was faking my pain level and i guess fishing for drugs because of my race. I’m grateful to see the passion you both put behind your job.

Thank you both for working so hard to take care of us. When I had my daughter 24 years ago I was let to go 2 weeks over. She was a forced labor and I had to have nicu there because of that exact reason. ❤ Thank you 😊 🙏
