When you listen to this song going back to the 60s it's clear how Nashville overproduced Willie and kept him from finding his true voice. To much light and sweetness that really detracts from the sadness that is the essence of this song. Here in 74 Willie is being purely himself and the family knows how to add just the right embellishment. Mostly Paul keeping rhythm and not much more. This is a treasure and all other versions of this song pale in comparison.
