I like the fact that Dolly ''deals' directly with Jolene, assuming 100% that if Jolene had wanted, she would automatically have had him, without even asking the SOB if he ever wanted or not to go do it with Jolene 😂😂I just love when women assume that we , men, don't have a say in that.....in all truth, for most part, 80% would probably say ''yes'' to that offer......the part with ''crying in his sleep calling her name'' is soooo not man like ! I know, I know, it was written by a woman for a woman, so , no man has a say in that....😃😃

Firstly, it's just a song written to entertain. Secondly, Dolly is an entertainer at heart and took liberties embellishing the story for the sake of its entertainment value. In the version I've heard her tell, it's true that a woman at the bank flirted with her husband and that he enjoyed the flirtation. But, her being very much secure in herself as well as her marriage, she simply had fun teasing him over the whole thing. So, that's the story that served as 'inspiration' for the song. It's not to be taken seriously.

Love Dolly Parton: she's so straight-talking it's a delight. A few decades back, she relaunched her career, having lost a load of weight, and she was touring the UK, doing the chat shows and breakfast programmes. One female presenter leaned in to her, conspiritoriously, and asked, "Dolly, you've talked a lot about losing weight recently; what's your secret?", clearly hoping to be told about some magic therapy or exclusive Hollywood clinic or something. Dolly gave her the most old-fashioned look ever and replied, "Aw honey, the secret's simple: you just gotta get your feet outta the trough..." 🤣 My mum laughed so hard at that she nearly choked, and Dolly could do no wrong in her eyes thereafter.

Anyone who can stand up in public and say out loud "it costs a lot of money to look this cheap" gets my vote! Seriously, I have a huge admiration for Dolly and her work. She has cranked out a HUGE number of songs, MANY of which have been covered by major stars (who tend to not mention where they got them from). The clean pure original version of "Jolene" with a couple of guitars and Dolly's voice without electronic "enhancement" is a delight which will stop me in my tracks and I will be unavailable for the next couple of minutes.
@mikemiller30693 жыл бұрын
Dolly wrote and performed "I Will Always Love You" which she is still making money from Whitney Houston's cover of it. She wrote it for her manager/show host, Porter Wagner and performed it on his show to tell him that it was time to move on to bigger and better things for the sake of her career. Her version is softer and sweeter than Whitney's cover (although I love both versions) and definitely worth a listen. Deep rabbit hole, though. But she is also such a good person and icon, a true American treasure.

She said she doesn't know if Elvis ever knew why the deal fell through. Contrast that to Whitney Houston, who I also flew with about a year later. Whitney and her mom were in the row ahead of me. Whitney would not speak directly to the flight attendant, nor could the FA speak directly to her. All communication had to go through her mom. The FA made quick eye contact with me during one of the engagements, and did a classic eye roll. Priceless.
