Horses need to eat to keep warm especially if they aren’t wearing blankets. Don’t cut them back on hay yet

If your horses were exercised properly you wouldn’t have to worry as much about feed. Have you thought about getting a walker? Or boarding Gracie and Lady in a program? I would consider taking the round bale away for the summer and feeding in piles instead.

Horses need exercise. Just because its cold doesn't mean you can't ride or longe your horse. I have rode in a foot of snow before. In the winter we would have to increase our horses corn to keep them "hotter", But we left them on pasture and they got a flake or two of hay twice a day. Hay will make your horses fat.

i would recommend exercise everday then when sophie has some weight lost then she could ride lady

you need to really give your horses exercise, just because its cold doesn tmean they should sit in a field all day, keep them moving because it will help their joints and keep them in shape,, and youve got be really careful about lamenitis as well.
