I got a call from a lady that needed help with her yard for the first mow of the season. While I was mowing her yard, I noticed this OVERGROWN DISASTER across the street. I talked to a neighbor and they said there has been no one in this house for 5-6 years. She said the homeowner moved 5 years ago due to a death in the family - So I decided to get it cleaned up for the family and the neighborhood.

So many empty houses....so many homeless.!!!???.. our society is so broken.

If they moved into the empty houses, how are they going to pay for the power and gas? It could take some people weeks or months to get a job, if some of the homeless wants to work. And then they need to buy food and clothing, upkeep of the property. A lot of people who are homeless, choose to stay that way and a lot are drug addicts, the neighbors might not want that around their neighborhood or their kids. It’s sad that there’s so many abandoned homes that sit there for years and no one does anything about it. If it was that easy and a better system, every homeless person would have a place to live.

OK when you are out working and run across poison I've. And all those pesky vines take a bottle of alcohol and one of peroxide. When exposed wash down the area with peroxide and then the alcohol. The peroxide will neutralize the sap. Then use the alcohol is 🎉a drying agent. It will dry up the sap.

I think no one expects you to do a perfect job on a free lawn job. Especially when you have only so much time available to do it. the look of the place is much much better than it was before and that was the goal you accomplished. Congrats.

I'm always at a loss to understand why someone would simply abandon a house rather than rent/sell it. You did a terrific job cleaning it up! A house that looks abandoned invites squatters, miscreants, etc. to occupy it. A mower on another channel swears by showering with Dawn dish soap if he's been near poison ivy.

I found it really interesting that the neighbor to the right of that house, instead of helping out by keeping the sidewalk area clear, has let a portion of their sidewalk area become overgrown too! The house across the street from me has been empty for three years after the death of the owner, and the next door neighbor just mows the hellstrip (area between sidewalk and road) every time they mow their own yard. You did a great job on this yard!

Of course, he was a big inspiration for me. The green bags have alot of room in them and are wide open so easy to throw stuff into. Then you can just empty them into a big tarp and dispose later!

The New Zealand version of the reusable bags are recycled wool bags. I think the name comes from actual bags they pack wool fleeces into on farms, recycled. They smell of wool but they feel like canvas so that's what I figure it means. But whatever they are they work great. Large open bags with 4 large flaps you can fold over the top. Holds about half a cubic metre, or 1.77 cubic ft. Real easy to drag across concrete or lawns. My only thing is not to over fill them or I can't lift them into my wagon haha. First time I did it I had to get help to lift.

While those vines COULD have been a non-poisonous ivy (like English Ivy), they don't usually lose all of their leaves over the Winter... For that reason, I'm going to agree with you that they were probably Poison Ivy! Good call on your part!

Unless your allergic, poison ivy will not kill you! I'm up here in Minnesota, and I've never seen poison ivy grow on a vine. It can get 3-4 feet high, and it grows rather "thick"
