I don’t think it’s bad etiquette to look through it because I’m not holding anything for anyone without knowing exactly what’s in it. If anything, I would look through it, make a log of what’s in it and have them sign it. Then when they got it back, verify that I gave everything back. What if you hold their wallet and they come back and say there was cash missing?
