In Va/NC we used to get a whole Bushel of Steamed Blue Crabs on the table, Black Pepper in Vinegar and Pitchers of Ice Cold Beer.. sooo good. Plus Sea Side Salt Oysters raw, the Delicacy is the Little Crab that lives in the Oyster…

I'll eat raw oysters , can't stand them fried , but the best way to cook them is steamed with some garlic butter to dip them in . Hootoers used to sell them like that . Steam those crabs and sheimp in beer , covered with Old Bay. Dude with the can of Old Bay knows what he's doing . Every time I see blue crabs it brings back memories of my youth catching crabs on the Chesapeake bay every weekend in the summer . Props to you for figuring out the best way to clean the " mustard " as they call it out of those crabs , I run mine under hot water in the sink , but the hose works too . Great videoe .Nothing better than good times with friends .

Having lived on the Chesapeake Bay, catching blue crabs and both black and red drum were a way of life. Black drum on a fish finder look like abandoned pilings, because drum feed straight up and down. When fillet'd, black drum is close to 3 inches thick. We didn't use spinning rods, but jigging or trolling rods, as the same areas that drum were found, also had lots of skates (aka rays), and its like catching a mattress. On the Chesapeake, oysters aren't in season until the "R" months. I can't eat them raw, but steamed until the shell pops open is a favorite unless making oyster fritters or oyster stew. Can't blame you Gabe for not wanting to eat oysters raw.

The thing about only eating oysters in months that end in R was started a long time ago just to keep people from harvesting them in the summer months when they are trying to spawn. You can eat them year round safely.

Have to try oysters bbq , chuck them after they’ve been on the grill for 10 minutes to steam themselves add a squeeze of lemon, crystal and bbq sauce. That’s how I grew up eating them from Northern California.

Great video yet again. Yall should try boiling blueclaw crab's cooked in a Marinara sauce or a Fra Diavolo sauce. First split the bodies and clean them good and the meat just comes right out of um when done. Or try the sauteed beer, butter and garlic way if you never have. Either way you won't be disappointed.

Gabe, we were always taught to go one step further. Clean those blue claws alive to get those guts out before cooking. Freezes nice that way as well. Dump small ones into pasta sauce for spaghetti. Awesome!

That drum was almost as big as one I caught out of Galveston years back. Didnt know it at the time but it most likely would have been a state record. It had at least a foot over this one and it took me a good 45 minutes to get it to the boat.

I used to eat oysters. Catch a bad oyster as I once did in New Orleans and that food poisoning will instill an abundance of caution in you too. It’s why I skip them altogether these days. Too many toxic substances in our waterways to take the chance. I REALLY miss eating raw and fried oysters. 😢

Fortunately for oyster eaters like me and I’ve met literally thousands of people as I worked in the hospitality industry that not only not eat oysters but all types of shellfood and fish species. I’m from New Zealand and we have ready access to our kaimoana ( seafood) but we Māori (indigenous people) love Kina ( sea urchins) and most non polynesian people back off from eating them just like this guy but all I can say is you leave more for me . Her comment that she might be a bayou girl brought a smile to my face as I understood what she meant

Remember a great Sunday w crabs, corn on the cob and spuds from roadside market on the Maryland coast. Caught the crabs off the back porch, well across a little yard too. The trap went w the house where we stayed. But we used that trap and had half bushel crabs or more.
