Howdy! I've been getting a lot of questions about where to get these tires. Arctic trucks North America is located in Cheyenne Wyoming. I would shoot them a call or email asking about availability here in the states. I know there are a couple of dealers, so these guys can point you in the right direction of where to find a set. Have a great snow season! Happy Thanksgiving

For anyone looking into these but wanting to go bigger, Nokian has also made a 44" tire in cooperation with Arctic Trucks designed on the same principles. Less aggressive tread for less digging, sipes and soft compounds for gripping snow and studdable if so desired. Nokian also make snow tires for tractors which I've thought about trying on a build but maybe one of you crazy Americans will do it first =)

Probably not the first icelander to tell you this but we air these down to 1.5-2.5 psi frequently and it makes a big difference. My 2.3Ton landcruiser can handle 2psi but from there down I get less traction. given the right wheels you can go down to 1-1.5psi. The feeling of floating on top of snow is amazing

The strongest LT76 from the factory is the suffix D model. This was fitted from the end of 1981 until the end of series 3 production in 1984. The strongest transfer box was fitted to the 1 ton models and has lower gearing. The earlier series 2/2a gearbox was stronger than all the series 3 variants ( apart from the suffix D) but only has syncromesh on 3rd to 4th gear.

@@paulnewton943 the LT95 is a nice box but its still only a 4 speed though. I still feel the R380 is a better option because its a 5 speed and it mates up without modification to a LT230 which i think is kinda needed for those huge tyres. If he keeps the series transfercase and builds/swaps in a stronger transmission those huge tyres with full difflock is just gonna kill the transfercase.

Lol - PROPER snow tires make a world of difference on snow and ice. Here in Norway (I'm Norwegian) - you are a fool if you do not put your "winter wheels" on come winter. And I'm not talking about "all year mud+snow" type of tires - they are pretty useless. But proper soft rubber - with or without metal studs - Continental Viking or Nokian Hakka winter tyres. Just try a simple braking test on snow and ice with one type versus the other. It is night and day!
@Cbr074917 күн бұрын
@@jarls5890 are metal studs still legal in Norway? I think Denmark banned them
@jarls589017 күн бұрын
@@Cbr0749 Yes. And in some places it is absolutely necessary. Denmark has the advantage of being flat as a pancake and considerably milder (and more uniform) climate overall. In fact there has been some encouragement that more people needs to use studded tires as too many studless tires "polish the ice". Keep in mind that under a certain temp - salt will stop working on ice.
@Cbr074917 күн бұрын
@@jarls5890 Thanks for the reply. Being from the Faroes, i completely understand. Winter tires are most effective here, plowing through slush ice, since it is -2, to +5C most of the time. Do you ever use sand instead of salt?

The one ton lt76 is about 30% lowered geared and with at thicker main shaft, but otherwise similar to the standard lt76. That includes a weak reverse gear… I would use an R380 with a short bellhousing, but I don`t know how available they are in the US.
@DirtLifestyleАй бұрын
Do you know how the short bell housing r380 compares to the length of the L76?
@GardnerHappyАй бұрын
@ if I read the information from Ashcroft transmission correct, the r380 is 102mm longer than the lt76. But that is with a series transfer box. A LT 230 transfer is longer. Look up: Series 5 speed kits. People have fitted both lt77 (same length as short bellhousing r380) and lt230 in 88`s, but that requires some fidling to get some decent angles on the rear propshaft.
