About 6 months ago I went through my closet to get rid of stuff. I gave myself 20 minutes to do it so that I wouldn't overthink each item. If it was stained or too small or I just hadn't worn it in the last 3 months, it got pulled out. I gave myself about 15 minutes to do my dresser drawers. When it was all piled in my floor I didn't fold it and neatly bag it. I stuffed it in bags and put them in the front seat of my car (which would force me to donate them to a woman's shelter or else my kids wouldn't fit in the car lol). I knew if I sat and folded them, some of them would have ended up back in my closet. I HAD to set these parameters because I def get overwhelmed with the task of decluttering. Minimalism has really fascinated me the last 7 or so years.

Honestly, the "decluttering is a chore.. who wants to do a chore? Oh wait, you do" is soooo relevant. I'm also a minimalist/organizer and a while back my husband was answering a question about what I like to do and he said "you like to organize" and my immediate reaction was "no, it's a necessity!" but I kept thinking about it and... Holmes245 About 20 years ago, our next door neighbours were this married couple and their teenage son. The wife was always dressed immaculately. One day my four year old daughter locked me out of the house so I ran next door to use their phone quickly. When I walked in...it was like an episode of hoarders. Only enough room to walk a tiny path to each room and the phone was sitting on stacks of stuff piled up. I was stunned. She used to walk out the door looking gorgeous every day yet the inside of the house looked like a dump. I felt so sad for their little family. 🥺

Yeah me too. It's amusing to hear wealthy people talk about minimalism like it's such a great thing. If they couldn't afford new clothes (or new anything) for years, they probably wouldn't think it was so great.

I declutter every few months and offer everything to people who want to have it. Having less stuff really makes you happy. I am not attached to any item, except my beautiful dresses. I love making people happy with the stuff I do not use. Do this frequently as you will find always something that you do not use anymore. Much love. Xx

It's amazing that in all these years your minimalism didn't rub off on her a little bit. I'm a minimalist and my husband is not, but over the years he has decuttered a lot of stuff because he doesn't see the point in having so much stuff anymore, especially when we move. In fact, at this moment he has a smaller wardrobe than I do. We are both trying to get away from a consumerist lifestyle, it's not good for our blue planet.

I really appreciate what she said about her things bringing her happiness, being used regularly and adding value to her life, with clothes especially. In January 2020, i decided to Marie Kondo my wardrobe. I went into it with the idea of a project 333 capsule wardrobe but ended up keeping 250+ articles of clothing, excluding shoes, bags, jewelry, and accessories. I really want to explore that middle ground of living mindfully and intentionally but still having lots of things because i enjoy them and, as Nat said, don’t want to deprive myself of that choice or experience

So happy to see she tried and went back to hoarding which makes her happy! I was a hoarder and had to pack my entire life in 23 kgs as I decided to move abroad. I thought I could be a minimalist here but I see how stressful it is to start life from scratch again, find a job amidst a pandemic and the one thing that gives me joy is shopping! I understand I am depleting my savings but I have become more conscious now. I think I've landed somewhere between a minimalist and a hoarder. Finding a balance to bring me joy and support the economy as I'd like to call it :D

7:10 "Left with only 33 items to wear over the next 7 days" I can't believe this. I do not consider myself a minimalist, but if you don't count underwear, the things I wear over one week are 1 jeans, 3-4 shirts, 1 hoody + sports clothing for training. How is it even possible to wear so much stuff :O

@anywardbivins62594 жыл бұрын
The actual challenge is supposed to be 33 items for 3 months, I believe. Nat just only wanted to commit for one week. I think I would try for one month. Just tough for me because I’m not really great at doing laundry on a regular basis. 😱

Being minimalist doesnt have to be wearing only black. In my opinion, being minimalist is cutting down items that you dont use on a regular basis. Decluttering once or twice a year is a good feeling of letting go things you dont use but of good use to others❤️
@TamNguyen8112 жыл бұрын
it's not about the colour of your clothes. what I find is if you wear same color clothes it help you reduce the number of choice you have yo make every day which save your time for other things.

For me it was having places for the other person where they can have all their stuff but I don't see it. So lots of stuff in their home office and stored in their desk/bookcase. Or stored in their side of the wardrobe and I don't have to see it (as I see it as clutter and mess). For communal rooms it's finding the balance of personalities. So some things are out (vinyls, video games) but done in a tidy and more aesthetically pleasing way so it doesn't look like clutter. It can be an ongoing struggle though 😅
