Esraa is looking to rent an apartment with her friends. In Egypt, where personal freedom can be routinely compromised in the name of religion, family and country, that makes her a rebel. Like many in her generation, she is gasping for change. Can she win?

@box9aa ga Do you live in Egypt? Out of all the Arab states, Egypt was voted the worse for women's rights. I am going to check out the videos you linked now. Thank you. I live in America and people constantly complain about the government and they're rights. I see Egyptian female KZbinrs being sent to jail for for wearing clothes that are too revealing. Things like that do not happen in America

So why America don't do anything for Egypt Also, one of the reasons for the decline of life in Egypt is the existence of dictatorial authorities, and the reason for the existence of dictatorial regimes is the presence of Israel, which has changed the form of governments to become dictatorial governments that obey Israel’s orders and in turn America supports Israel We are tired of being called out from America The more America wants reform, the more it spoils Therefore, I do not think that America deserves to be respected for its words as long as it uses the method of deception to control the world

I wouldn't be able to live with a person that can't respect the way I am. Ali is the type of guy that takes her for a dumb one, sees only his way as the right way, and is on his quest of "cleansing" her mind. It's that type of guy that thinks that your opinions are just a phase and that he can bring you the truth. I'm sorry for her she chose such a pathetic tool. If my partner would've said something about killing the group of people I belong to, I would've left him/her immediately.

This is refered to as culture. I hate the word culture when it is used as an excuse to legitimize all sorts of bad and archaic behavior. We need to realize that culture is both good and bad. Every generation must be allowed to evolve culture and chart new courses. Religion, elders, culture and politics should not be used to suppress new ideas. The guy says "if i say all human rights people are useless, should that insult you?" YES, that insults the majority of people on this planet.

I can understand her struggle but it's all cultural ..I'm muslim and live alone cuz of my job though I hate being away from my family ..my family is extremely religious and they support me and encourage me to be independent since childhood so blame the culture not the religion

this "culture" is because of religion proof is that before islamism,salafism became proponent in Egypt women where a contributing factor to economy and work but copying saudi culture. Also you are wrong or just replying in bad faith ur last sentence is extremely contradicting , takes 30 seconds to google fatwa by well known and respected muslim scholars that its unlawful for women to work, especially if it was with a man and without a veil 😆

I think she was raised in a very conservative, religious family because i live here and i honestly never experienced this, none of my friends here either. When i visit the Countryside here tho i hear alot of similar things as she has experienced. I hope she finds peace tho, the youth needs to overcome our toxic society norms.

Which city are you from? From what I understand it’s normal there, her family is not particularly conservative.

@@jewellui it depends on your socioeconomic class. Cases like hers are more common in poor to lower middle class, whereas like myself and op, if you’re from the middle or upper middle class it’s not really common. The issue is that more than 50% of Egyptians are poor.

@jewellui 4 жыл бұрын
@@asurvivor6150 as you said many Egyptians are poor yet OP said he or she has only heard of these things in the countryside. From what I understand this is common in most parts of Egypt not just the countryside so maybe his or her social circle is a little more fortunate that’s why I was asking where.

@@jewellui well you can clearly see in the video that the woman in the video who was being controlled was from an urban area. Her family just seemed very uneducated and they also didn’t seem particularly rich. So, yeah it doesn’t just happen in the countryside but it’s more common there. I can’t really pinpoint why her brother is abusive and controlling. There are many reasons. For one why did his parents enable him to act like that from a young age? Because his family think this behavior is ok. Why do they think it’s ok? I just don’t know.

As an Egyptian believer it’s sad to see someone driven away from a religion because of the actions of their family and people around them .. Many religious people tend to mix dumb cultural practices with religion such as genital mutilation for girls “which is illegal in Egypt now thankfully and been for a few decades” Parents should try to make their children love and believe in the religion not force them and threaten them to follow it ! This is a really sickening mentality that I wish the next generation of Egyptians could erase entirely ! Thankfully I was taught true Islam by my grandparents and parents and after that I did my own research and I fully believe in it and try my best to be better everyday .. but I cannot blame her for attaching Islam to the actions of her brother and parents .. but just a small reminder is to do our own research and not blame the religion .. I believe the religion is perfect but unfortunately people aren’t! .. Also gotta love how this is on NYT of course they gonna show the Egyptian society as a backwards thinking bunch for refusing to accept people from different genders living together outside marriage.. remember that not everyone is perfect as I said no matter how close or trusting your friends are u never know what could happen, we’re taught preventative measures is better than diving into the problem heads first .. Not every country gotta adhere to the “western principles or values” it doesn’t have to be backward just because it doesn’t follow your way of life or thinking .. But again I cannot blame her !

She looks, speaks and sounds so much like someone I know that I felt like I know her on a personal level. I wish she would be a bit afraid, it doesn't mean that you're weak or wrong, it just means that you want to survive. Nothing good happened to all the people who came out publicly like this, even after escaping the country the mental toll is so great that it can lead to suicide.

Lol "independent", you mean a body count of of 30, while the public tax system props her up with a high paying government job while she manages meetings with her besties, while that tax money comes from the guy she would have married in Egypt but instead because of over taxation he's dying in a tenet city on fentanyl, with her brother. Her mother on a waiting list for a medical procedure that she doesn't even need if the doctor bothered to tell her she had a vitamin deficiencies but she didn't notice because she is a strong independent women too. Can we get an interview of the 45 year old strong independent women unaliving themselves in basement apartments all around my city because when the scam of being totally independent ends after their fertile years are over, when the companies dump you, and the extra guys stop chasing, then your just alone, childless, broke, low status, and strong and independent.
