Shea butter in Ghana: Hard labour for smooth skin

What is the price of having smooth skin? Some people spend a lot of money on beauty products which contain shea butter, but not much of that trickles down to the widows of a small farming community in northern Ghana who process nuts from which the moisturising paste is made.

@@Thenewlife83 you mean how do you know if it's fair trade? It will be labeled fair trade and it should have a specific logo (? Idk what to call it, a picture/stylized text reading "fair trade certified"). I still don't know how much these women are making for the "fair trade" shea butter, but it is better than if it's not fair trade. Hopefully it really is truly fair. Now I'm going to do some more research after watching this video. I'd like to find a way to order as straight from the source as possible, so that the vast majority of my money spent actually goes to these women.

I buy Ghanaian Shea butter labelled ‘fair trade’ here in India. Ghanaian women should start their own sales channel and sell it directly to consumers, benefitting either parties more.
