I have a Legacy 2, same color, that I bought in the late 90s. It has a converter, but the barrel also unscrews at the back to operate the converter like a touchdown filler. It is a good pen, but has a very wet feed.

My favorite pen that I own, partially because I picked it up for 38 bucks at an antique store. This pen changed my opinion of Sheaffer. Thanks for the great review, as always.

The Sheaffer Legacy was among the last Sheaffers to be made in the USA before they moved to China. What a great pen it is! I find it superior to the PFM in that it holds so much more ink--the PFM needs refilling almost once per day! I believe that the Legacy is back in production in China, but I don't know if with the same level of craftsmanship. Sheaffer was once one of the great American pen companies, like Parker.
@eliasragi74729 жыл бұрын
In some versions of the Legacy the lining in the barrel - and the barrel thus being heavy - is probably related to the mechanism where the barrel had the "Touchdown Plunger", advertised allowing the pen to be filled (with the converter in place) with the plunger. I have not tried myself and I do not know how it works.

Beautiful cat! The pen is nice too.

Sheaffer really likes this style: the PFM, I think there was a "PFM-II", a Legacy (which I have) and here a Legacy Heritage. The Legacy uses a piston-converter though you can substitute a cartridge if you wish.

Hi! I have a vintage (was NOS) with a 14k gold nib and a touchdown filling mechanism that can be converted to cartridge and was made in the USA.... It's supposed to be the same as the PFM, except that the PFM is a snorkel fill. It's a great pen... A bit large for me....but, I enjoy it and your reviews immensely!!!! Thanks!

As usual, an informative and useful presentation. It is a lovely pen. The PFM, on which the Legacy Heritage is based, is a snorkel filler. Many thanks for the opportunity to see the Legacy Heritage in action! Please keep the videos coming!

I love my Legacy 1 & 2's, though I've yet to acquire the original PFM. The later "Heritage" model seems much the same other than it's limitation to the the C/C filling system. Finding functional "touchdown" converters for the 1&2's can be an issue, but they're easily used with standard Sheaffer cartridges and converters. They're a very nice version of the classic PFM and ones that I enjoy. Thanks, Stephen.

I,on the other hand, very much enjoy being able to cleanly touch the gripping portion of the inlaid nib of Sheaffer pens. It creates a more direct connection between the nib ("Wow! I'm actually touching the nib without staining my fingers!"), and the paper I'm writing on. And that's one degree closer to the writing medium! Excellent review-- Thank you!

sbrebrown, I really enjoy your reviews. Because of it, I will add this Shaeffer Legacy to my collection. I just got my Shaeffer 300 fountain pen today. I purchased mine direct from Shaeffer Pen. I only got 1 cartridge, not two. There was a cartridge converter. I don't know if I'm ready for bottled ink, yet. It did have, however, all the components you speak of that I really like too. The pen is sturdy, and fits the hand very well. It probably too heavy for a lady. I love that this pen posts. Although, Shaeffer is owned by AT Cross, my Cross Bailey fountain pen does not post. I am waiting for Cross to send me a new pen that I hope posts. The 300 writes smooth & does not scratch like other fountain pens. Nib is cool looking. For some reason, Shaeffer will not engrave vs. Cross which will engrave. Why? They are owned by the same company. I am happy with my new Shaeffer fountain pen 300. I got the black & gold, however, I am admiring yours with the silver cap and trim. fred. fredberri.com

Thx a lot for your great work! It convinces me to buy it right away. I prefer C/C filling since it's much more easier to maintain than TD or Snorkel, let alone the deteriorated aging parts of Legacy I & II.

Stephen, you did a review of the Sheaffer Valor some time ago. How does it compare as a writer with the Legacy Heritage? Thanks, David

I like it better than the Valor, because it has a bit more girth. he nibs on both are fine, though.

I researched a bit on this pen. Going back, I think I liked this pen more where the cap was finished in black lacquer (9034) too. Do you think that finish is available now? Do you like such a finish? Since you seem to be pretty close with Sheaffer, them sending you pens to review and all, could you please make a request for a re-release of that version of the pen? I don't know what the outcome will be. But let's hope for the best! One more question. You've been using fountain pens for long. So... do you think posting the cap every time we use the pen will ruin the barrel's lacquer in time? You know scratches & such. Thanks ahead! Cheers!!!
@sbrebrown8 жыл бұрын
I'm actually not that close with Sheaffer :-). I think the black version was nice, but I don't know if the black-capped version is currently available. Posting a pen can definitely ruin a pen's finish, but it depends on the pen and the cap.
@alwayspete8 жыл бұрын
Come on! They must recognize you by now with so many reviews done! :") Do you think posting will ruin the Legacy Heritage Black Lacquer or Carène Black Lacquer? Could you also do a review for this pen - Pilot E95s? Another pen with an embedded nib. Although I just got into fountain pens, the hooded nibs are easily catching my attention these past few days. Thanks man for your time! Cheers!!! Pointy fingers to the camera :") Pete :")

With any lacquered pen that has a metal cap, I'd be extra careful.
@alwayspete8 жыл бұрын
Extra careful in the sense you won't post the pen at all or you will post the pen with extra care? Are the insides of black lacquer caps metal? Is that how it is for the Carène and Legacy Heritage? Well I guess the Legacy Heritage in this video must be a metal one. But the earlier black lacquered cap I don't know. Could you please also do a review for this pen - Pilot E95s Black with gold trims? And after the review, send me the pen as a souvenir? Well you receive pens all the time, this would be interesting for a change! Please let me know man. Keeping my eyes peeled for the review. Thanks ahead! Pete :")

Hello Stephen. What pen will you prefer to buy, a Pelikan m1000 or a Sheaffer Legacy Heritage? Are they price almost the same?
@sbrebrown10 жыл бұрын
I think the M1000 is a bit more expensive. I would prefer that pen due to nib smoothness.

How did you get the sheaffer pen for free?
@opulan8 жыл бұрын
It's pretty easy if you contact any company's PR manager, but you need to present them with a good enough reason to send you one. Obviously they won't send a free pen to any random person, so you would probably need to be like Stephen with a tonne of KZbin influence and viewers which presents sheaffer "advertising" of sorts and gives them a reason to send you one

@GenWivern210 жыл бұрын
Mmmm, nice enough but not strikingly good value when you consider what else is available for the money - a PFM in nice condition and a bottle of preposterously expensive ink, for instance. Or a Targa and a lot of change. It's not that I don't like Sheaffer's current range but the pricing seems rather out of whack. It would be interesting to know where the Legacy Heritage is made.
@sbrebrown10 жыл бұрын
I agree: nice, but not spectacular.
@michaelj.jordan17328 жыл бұрын
Czech made. This pen is not quite expensive actually. For a legit price of 260 usd, legacy is a real deal.
@chrismd0010 жыл бұрын
At this price, definitely a piston, snorkel, or some nice filler. Even Noodler's gives you a piston at cheap price. This is a deal breaker for me. I need big ink capacity and visible storage. At this price range, I consider a converter or cartridge a 'cop out.' Maybe Sheaffer users like cartridges... Thanks for the review, very nice as usual.
@sbrebrown10 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think many pen aficionados feel that way.
@opulan8 жыл бұрын
I would agree, but then seeing some Nakaya and Namiki and even sailor pens I've mellowed to that idea of Pistons. I feel pistons are only good when you can easily clean them when required. Nobody can argue with the convenience of converter and cartridges
@GlennHigley8 жыл бұрын
The C/C filling system is great for ease of cleaning in comparison to exotic filling systems that may be fun, but bothersome to clean and costly to have repaired. I'm quite happy with C/C pens at any price.

Why not point the camera to a table and show the items on that, instead of playing around with focus and not a good view...no offense, just thought that's more efficient.
@aquariaaustin20777 жыл бұрын
One of the things I don't like about the pen is that ugly half-clip. It makes an otherwise gorgeous pen look cheap and half-ass, for lack of a better term. I know it's the "legacy" of the PFM (and some other vintage Sheaffer models), but I thought it was ugly in the 60s when this model was popular, and I still think it's ugly.
@RuLuLemon10 жыл бұрын
Nice pen but come on Sheaffer, how are you going to ask for 425 Euro's and make the pen have no proprietary filling system. Beautiful pen but not at the price when it is a C/C filler IMHO.
@michaelj.jordan17328 жыл бұрын
duofold is also with C/C system. Nobody blames it for inferior mechanism. Anyway, this legacy costs only 220 euro in China brand new.
@RuLuLemon8 жыл бұрын
+gao eric Never been a fan of the Parker Duofold, but yes I am blaming it for having in inferior mechanism. It is personal preference and I was just stating mine. Great that the Legacy is 220 Euros in China, have fun wasting your money on that piece of crap.
