Oobleck (a commonly used name for a mixture of cornflour and water) is a shear thickening fluid which means it gets more viscous when force is applied quickly (high shear rate) - this video is greyscale and has no sound.
This video shows a ball bearing dropped from a height of ~20 cm onto a pot of oobleck (which is made from 90g of cornflour and 60g water).
The video was recorded at a frame rate of 2000 frames per second!
Many thanks to Dr Richard Turner (School of Metallurgy and Materials, University of Birmingham) for recording this video.
