Alpacas are a domestic species that produce a gorgeous fleece. The alpacas must have the fleece sheared off every year for their health and well being. The farmers need the fleece sheared every year as part of their production and harvest.
This video is a how to for shearing an alpaca using a tilting table. The advantage of using a table is comfort and safety of the alpacas and the humans. The fleece can be collected in a manner that maximizes harvest. You need a minimum of 3 people (4 is better) to safely load and unload the alpaca. This table was custom made. Commercial tables are available.
The shearer uses electric shears and shears every alpaca the same way. This method minimizes steps, increases efficiency and maximizes the harvest. Note the blanket fleece (from the upper rear leg to the front shoulder across the back) comes off in one piece on each side. It goes to the sorting table and is skirted there.
