Thanks for putting this together Kaz. I'm looking at pre lamb shearing because I can never get a shearer till July. This means the ewes have significant heat stress and are susceptible to flies which can be a problem soon after lambing. I was looking at shearing mid March and lambing mid April. I started with Easycare sheep the depreciation on bought sheep (even the one that aren't culled for feet and general uselessness) and the opportunity cost of keeping replacements means they'll only ever be part of my flock.

I used to winter shear at the turn of the year with the ewes and lambs turned out late March, early April. They housed better and a thin twin could be easily spotted and moved in with the triplets. I did have an issue with wool slip until I found a ration that contained what it said on the label. The ewes went out with an inch of wool and they were kept back in the bulking up pen until the lambs filled their skins. Losses after turnout were rare and losses in the shed were minimal. It meant that our grass had the break it needed to grow good Spring grass. It has to be said that I paid attention to detail. I was fortunate in having a good shearer who always spotted anything I missed and was happy to let me orf vaccinate whilst they were turned up. The sheep didn’t have to be asked twice to go in the shed and likewise when they were turned out. I also found floor feeding satisfactory on daily freshened bedding.

Well, duh: their wool is the best in the winter, but it is as if us humans ran around in the snow absolutely naked, lol! Can anyone do that and then live to talk about it? I don't think so... Therefore, how do you keep the sheep nice and warm, once they are all naked? You've got to figure all that out before you actually start that kind of business. Good luck!
