don't listen to people saying this is a bad highlight video. for anybody trying to STUDY, this is quality study film. I can see so many similarities and tendencies of todays players. and Kobe was a big film guy everyone knows that. I for sure saw some Kobe moves... face up in the post, stop on a drive for a pull up.. the way he gets to the middle from the post. its really similar to Kobe's. As a small forward, my mantra was to play like Worthy, because "Worthy is for real!" Steals, suddenness, and taking it to the hole! Having a great player to model yourself after definitely helps in getting more buckets. Combining Worthy's straight up and lean in shot game followed my first coach's requirement not to shoot fade aways (in order to gather more rebounds). Worthy was the perfect hero for a smalltime player like me.

Thanks for the video! I think James Worthy vs LBJ one on one would be a great match up! Both 6'9" the best fast break forwards ever in the NBA! I think James Worth has much more skills in a half court set than LBJ. LBJ is such a beast abnormal strength and speed. Maybe the best Defender next to Chamberlain in the NBA! Only thing that may help James. He would battle the toughest Bigs thru his whole career. The NBA had some rugged players in his era. Parish, McHale,M Malone,K Malone, Barkley,Mahorn, Lambeir, D Rodman etc.

Every coach ever: "Take away the baseline drive, force the ball into the paint so defenders can help!" ... James Worthy: "No problem. I'ma fake baseline and then go right into the middle of the paint. And toss a nifty finger roll or baby hook with 3 guys collapsing. And score anyway." ... that sums up about 68% of these highlights.

Closest player I can compare Worthy to offensively is Bernard King. Both were outstanding finishers around the rim (especially from mid-range) and in transition. Only real difference between them is that Bernard had to do it himself most of the time, while Worthy had the support of two other franchise players in Magic and Kareem. Nice vid, btw. James Worthy was absolutely one of the greatest in the open court in the nba. People didn't have defenses to stop Worthy. He was too quick, a super passer, great jump shooter. So so defender(couldn't stop Bird), could rebound as needed, ran the floor extremely well, was a super late game clutch shooter. Worked extremely well with the greatest point guard in history, Magic(and the big O). Owned the Celts in 85 and 87. Was a class act who was a complimentary player to Kareem and all of his teammates. One of the greatest forwards ever. If the Celts had James, Bird would have 6 chips. He was THAT good.

I was 6 feet tall at 9 years old. 6'2" at 13 and stopped growing ! I was groomed to be a center and was no longer a Center Height. I could always play high and low posts very well. Being a 225 pound 15 year old and strong but lacking the height advantages I once possessed. I took so many pages from Worthy's Book. I used the one handed shot he used in the post, used his pivots. I grew up wanting to be Kareem but emulated Worthy.

On a whole different topic, i wish college basketball would get back full court man defense and full court presses. Like back in the day with ARKANSAS AND DUKE, KENTUCKY. With the athletes of today and the back end shot blocking you could get from this generation of players and the free safety could be the 5 and still protect the rim and the 4non ball pressuring the out of bounds passer to double or on dribble back tip, with the quickness and length of the modern player. But I wonder if the ball handling would be advanced or not, cause indent think these days the guys look to pass ahead and would try to dribble to beat presses. I think it would be interesting, also with 3 pt shooting and the willingness to pass up a layup for a three. Opportunities to get those 30% guys who been told can shoot to hoist them instead of dunk on your head. I think it could help mid major really bracket bust the tourney. Just a thought, I just always liked pressing when I played organized ball from age 11 to 20, junior yr in college I quit cause I was in LOVE, LOL. BAD DECISION HAH!!

+Joseph Scott ... I don't think rebounding is a problem with James. The rebounds he did bring down , many at critical times & were turned into points. I gotta say 1 thing... I don't think he was the fastest player ever BUT what James could do is go from 0 to his top speed in an instant. Probably the fastest 1st step in NBA history. Watching the Lakers back when he played was just an amazing pleasure. Whenever we really needed points & I would see some1 miss , for a split second I'd feel disappointed but BOOM , James' hand would fly up & grab the rebound & throw it in. Seemingly countless times I've seen it happen. Another uncanny thing He could do react as he was in motion. He would commit to a general move & as he's going up , still be reading the defense & could adjust as needed. A jump-shot might turn into a finger roll or a finger roll , a dunk. If he could get closer to the hoop , he did, He was like a phucking Cat like that! So very underrated. As smart as he was quick too. As great as those Lakers teams were , it was James who would do something on the court & shock me. At 6-9 & be THAT fast .... WOW! IF , Big Game-James had went to the Clippers , & had been the "single star-power" , His stat's would've been sooo much higher. James didn't have to be great in every category , He filled a role on a team. I miss watching him play... seeing a blur go by & watching other players pick up their jocks.... ALWAYS a pleasure. THANK YOU JAMES!

Interesting that some would want to compare Worthy to Lebron. Technically they both play the 3 but we are talking about very different players. Worthy was a pure scorer- especially out of the post during an era that favored post players. Lebron plays more positions including perimeter roles in an era that favors perimeter players. Where they share traits is in the open court and finishing. I don't think there are any players today that compare to Worthy save a few flashes of Carmelo, Durant and Harrison Barnes. Today's game seems to favor the small forward who can shoot for three.

what the hell are you talking about??he played in a era when there were the best centers ever. Hakeem, ewing moses malone sampson parrish sikma gilmore, lanier jabbar i could go on and on. he flourished with his quickness. imagine what he could do now with lack of big man in the league. lol

Very skilled and cerebral fundamental player. Worthy had it all over Dr J due to his efficiency, fire, drive and focus. So many times, Erving seemed lackadaisical out there and just going through the motions--and in the playoffs, no less. That was never a problem with Big Game James.

Totally agree. Only lately I realized that was Dr. J's game, though -- relaxed, a soft touch, and jumping off of one foot. If he'd played in any other way, then he wouldn't have been the Dr. I can't fault him for sticking with what he did best and trying to do it better in his final season, when I was very glad the Sixers won the championship.

Worthy would take Pippen to school when he was in his prime. Nobody, I mean nobody could guard him. No even a young Dennis Rodman. Also back in the day, the game was more physical. Flagrant fouls was part of the game. The 80s Celtics or the 80s Lakers would eat the Miami Heat alive.

Clowning the competition with circus shots. Back then the defense was more physical and you couldn’t carry the ball like players do today.
