Shed Demolition and Removal : How To

In this video I show you how to demo and remove a shed, pack the debris into your truck (or trailer), how much the debris weighed and how much it cost to dump. This video will be valuable not only to junk removers and others in the hauling industry, but for the DIY folks as well.
Keep in mind there are a few different ways to demolish a shed depending on its surroundings. The two most common approaches are
1. Start with the roof. Cut one half, pull it down into the shed, remove and repeat. Cut all walls in half, remove and repeat. Cut the floor in half, remove and repeat (the number of cuts will depend on the size of the shed).
2. Bust out the sides, pulling off all exterior panels, then push it over. Deal with the floor the same way as above.
For this particular shed we decided it was best to bust out the sides and push it over. The decision was made when I provided the quote. This shed was 8.5’ x 11.5’ and besides the floor, was in pretty decent shape. After a more detailed evaluation, I noticed the roof had 2 layers of shingles, making it extremely heavy. Since there were no noticeable structural flaws, and no obstacles surrounding the shed, pushing it over was an easy and safe bet. If the structure itself was in very poor condition, or there was a fence/other unmovable objects nearby, we would have started with the roof. In my opinion, and from my experience, it is always easier to bust out the sides and push it over if the surroundings and condition of the shed allow you to do so.
The way we performed this shed demolition required hand tools only (sledgehammers) until the roof was on the ground. If you need to start with the roof, you will be using sawzalls for the entire demo, so make sure you have enough blades, batteries and/or access to an outlet (for corded sawzalls or chargers)
We completed this job in 1 hour and 15 minutes with 2 men on site.
Here is a list of the tools we used in this video
- DeWalt Flex Volt 60V MAX with 20V MAX 6.0 AH Batteries
- Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Sawzall with 8.0 High Output Batteries
- Milwaukee Wrecker Blades
- Huskey 10lb Sledgehammers
- Bolt Cutters
(At the end of the video, there is a clip showing the tools we used)
List of tools you should always have for junk removal or demolition
- Sawzall and accessories (blades, batteries and chargers)
- Sledgehammer
- Drill and accessories (assortment of bits, batteries and chargers)
- Crow Bar/Pry Bar
- Bolt Cutters
- Barrels
- Broom
- Shovel
- Dolly
- Extension Cords

Thanks for the video, I usually take the roof off first on the ones with lower ceilings but will have to try it this way next time. Shed like that we get about $750 and our dump fees are about half what yours are. Thanks again
@SteveConroy1
@SteveConroy1 3 жыл бұрын
That is how we started doing them. Much easier to take the roofs off of smaller or lower ceiling sheds, I agree. Most of the shed we demo are this size or larger so every chance we get to safely do it the way it was done in the video, we always do. I'd say 50% of the time we still need to start with the roof though due to obstacles like fences or the house itself that you don't want to damage. Where do you operate? Gotta love those lower dump fees!

What’s up Steve! Cool video. I just did a shed demo a little smaller than this. I charged $650 and cleaned $500. My competition asked for $1,200. Best part is I was able to take it apart by hand! Ha! The customer was like wtf? Sometimes they come down easy.

@@SteveConroy1 no power tools or pry bar or hammer. I kicked the walls out then tore them off. Once it was structurally weak enough I then pushed it down. Then I used leverage and pivot points to take it apart. The whole job took about 2.5 hours. This turned out to be an easy job. I’ve worked harder trying to pull a couch out of an apartment. I even had to cut one in half once. Ha!

@SteveConroy1
@SteveConroy1 3 жыл бұрын
Half the time and a quarter of the effort is correct. What you are not thinking of is 1) Going to pick up the machine (assuming the have a grapple attachment) 2) Laying down a plywood path from the shed to the dump trailer and possible around the shed itself 3) After the job is done, the dump trailer is full and needs to be brought to the transfer station/landfill (machine still at customers house). 4) Go from transfer station/landfill back to the customers house, load up the machine and drop it back off. That job took us less than 2 hours and we didn't damage the lawn whatsoever. We did 2 jobs before it and 1 after. Much quicker to do it this way.

How dramatic. You should be in possession of a voltmeter so that you don't have to risk "death" when dealing with the electrical aspect. See, having the resident kill their main breaker just inconveniences them, and you still don't have any more verification than you had already performed. Read the incoming line. It either has power or it doesn't. If it doesn't, do your thing. If it does, do what you need to until it doesn't.

JJ you gotta have a more positive attitude brother. It ended up being a full load. Figure out what the full load cost in your area is and thats your price! Tack on some labor as well. Everyone has their own system as to how they charge and what they charge for. Some would charge by the square foot for a job like this. If I charged someone $1k for this, that doesn't mean thats what it costs for everyone. That's just the number that makes sense for me to do the job.
