If you have room outside the shed, put compressor out there and run lines in, build a little shed/roof for it to keep out rain…will reduce the noise levels inside the shed while on, also get room back under bench.

Perhaps foil backed insulation bats. Much cheaper, will take the echo away, much more resistant to sparks & will help the shed not be a sauna.

Hands down one of the best things I invested in was a band saw. You can cut so accurately with it and it makes life so much easier. I can’t remember what it cost me ($600 ish?) but it was from total tools and cannot fault it. I will never touch the old droppy ever again! Also move the compressor outside. Built a little box for it with those foam sound pads and thank me later. Those pads will catch on fire for sure near where you grind.

Definitely build your own stand for the bench grinder. An old steel rim, a length of pipe and a piece of heavy plate will do the job nicely. Way more useful being able to drag it out to the middle of the shed if needed.

@@RoamLyfe Also with the Bandsaw vs Drop saw debate, I would go Bandsaw everytime. Bandsaw will cut everything the drop saw will, but has the added functionality of being able to be used in the vertical position with a table, so you can push thinner material through the blade, like cutting curves in sheet metal

I brought a makita cold cut saw for $730 at total tools, very little sparks, cuts like a warm knife through butter, I’ve done 5mm plate but wouldn’t recommend it on the standard blade; buy the heavy duty blade for that, but apart from that extremely happy. Cold to the touch immediately after cutting, very little burs, clamp and angle adjustment mechanisms are great. Not a single complaint.

Hey Dude started watching recently and love the channel especially the shed eps, a pointer for the benches, you are going to go crazy after a while when things roll off the bench and fall behind it because of the gap between the steel frame of the she and the tin, so get some sheet metal as high as you want and put it as like a backboard so that things dont roll off, also i have a metal drop saw and i love it for cutting steel box section or angle iron. keep up the great work bro!!

I suggest putting the metal working closer to the opening of the shed for easy cleanup and bringing in materials. You can make one long bench so you can also cut long pieces of raw material. And a carbide chop saws are nice but are noisy and shoot metal shavings. Also recommend a thick steel plate for your welding bench.

For sound deadening, maybe you could use the fibreglass sound deadening/thermal insulation sheets from Bunnings. Install them between the sheds studs and put thin ply over the top, attached to the studs, to retain and cover them. It would mean you would have to buy a wood saw though. Watching you cut the ply with a grinder was, interesting. Enjoy your channel and the shed is looking good.

Bandsaw or mitre pretty much depends on what you're planning to do with it. A miter's probably pretty good for ya as most of your metalwork is with tube. But a bandsaw is much better for cutting through thicker pieces such as lengths of bar for lathe or mill work. I'd definitely go for a mitre for about $500 with a steel blade as any bandsaw that cheap wouldn't be too high quality anyways. Loving the shed videos mate, keep it up

Love the video. I am curious why you didn't insulate the shed. You can never have too much bench space. I made an assembly table and used 2 layers of form ply for the top . It has worked great. Take a tip from a QLD woodworker - you need to pull those benches out and seal all the cut ends of the form ply. If you don't moisture will soak into those ends and your nice flat bench tops will no longer be nice and flat. They will act like a slow sponge to absorb water from the humid QLD air. Which for you is a big problem because you have permanently glued them to the frame. You can get a proper wood sealer product but you don't need that. Just paint them with whatever you have lying around ( I had some left over polyurethane). If you don't have anything suitable just shop for the cheapest thing to coat timber. Could be an undercoat, something on sale at ALDI, whatever - just a couple of coats of something is probably enough to stop the ends of the form ply soaking up moisture.
