Couple of suggestions from my experience of working with 3 or 4mm wire rope, mostly for suspending Christmas lights etc: I loosen but don't dismantle the grips/clamps, put them on the single line to begin with, then make the loop and feed the second wire through. Mini ratchet and socket makes tightening up the grips/clamps a breeze. Also, I wrap PVC insulation tape around a ~5cm section of the wire rope before I cut it, then cutting the wire rope in the middle of the taped section, you're less likely to unravel/injure you straight away I've made assemblies for temporary use with letter/number cable markings over the loose end, and then clear shrink over the whole lot. The idea being they connect to the hook anchor with the same code the following year

Aluminium ferrule crimps make a much neater job for the catenary wire, I use them for my amateur radio wire antennas.

Little advise from a lift mechanic on ropes and cables. Never saddle a deadhorse. The U shape should pinch the (dead)end. The sadle goes on the cable that is used. Put some tape around the cable before you cut it, the end won't fray.

In future flip the saddles so the bolts are to the live end of the wire as it allows for a more structural connection rather than saddling a dead horse

Just something I’ve noticed, probably would’ve been worth putting the Hook bracket on the outhouse end where the force is more in line, and the D/Loop bracket at the house end where the force is pulling sideways. Good work as always though.

That would have lost a lot of headroom to do it that way. Around 7 courses of brick work, or about two and a half feet.

Think I would have put a larger Wiska box for the CAT cables. The termination you mention for future cameras will be hard ( though probably more unsightly with a bigger box !)

Personally I use stainless steel cables ties for the catenary wire, seen far to many plastic cable ties snap and fall off due to UV degradation & I would not want that honking great cable falling down. Nice work though.

Nice job Nick. Would be a nice touch to put some metal fastenings on the catenary to stop the cable dropping off when the plastic zip ties snap with weathering. Love the channel.

Hey mate, no one over here, really uses round conduit within walls, just saves chasing deep, the oval is a third shallower bud, I'm going to try out 20 mil PVC conduit on the next rewire and see how it goes

We plate ( usually premed and fix to wall either side and seal for catenary fixings ( the roof can be tons in weight so much stronger than the wood ..

For short o/h runs like that I tend to do 25 or 32 conduit, but bending it to meet the boxes is 'fun'

Not sure what screws you use outdoors but I always use stainless. Anything that's outside and liable to exposure, stainless is the way. Grinds my gears when 12-18 months later, a good job starts to look poor when the screws are rusting...

Hey Nick I see your had bother with the piece not ejecting from the holesaw. I think from looking at yours they are Armeg. I found sabrecut ones from Amazon work really well and do what supposed to do even after long time usage. They are about 42 set of 5 great value. Keep up the great work and videos.

If you tape the catenary twice where you're gonna cut and then cut between, it stops the fray.

Always seems odd to me that 3 core SWA cable in England comes in the 3 phase colours here in Ireland 3 core SWA always comes in single phase colours brown, blue and green yellow because you cannot use 3 core SWA to feed a 3 phase supply unless you run a separate earth because the armourning has a low current rateing, the armourning of 16mm 3 core is only equal to 5mm in copper conductor.

The "u bolts" are called dogs and the tensioner is called a turnbuckles..... The heat shrink is an absolute no no as it will retain water and promote corrosion unless all is stainless!

That look hideous on external wall! If your going to expense of solar then a little ground work is peanuts to duct it. If you cant do a duct at this point then a few flush boxes low level internaly with everything ready to extend at later date would have been far better!

Wee tip - It's NOT called 'CAT cable' (Yes, I know other KZbinrs call it that too). Data or Ethernet cable is a more generic term but its UTP or STP (or various types of FTP, SFTP, etc.) The 'CAT' part is the category like Cat (Category) 5E, 6, 6A, etc. And hopefully you are not installing Cat-5 these days, 5E would be the absolute minimum, 6 would be typical in domestic and most business, applications with 6A becoming more common for business and generally future proofing. Cat-7 is available but not very common or used in very specific applications. I work for an IT Infrustructure company in New Zealand and Cat-6A is generally our normal now days for our corporate customers or new buildings with Cat-6 still popular in smaller applications and additions. But installing data cabling is certainly worthwhile whereever possible as Wireless (WiFi) is not always suitable for many applications.

Had to use catenary, the ground is solid concrete there, and there's a sewer between the house and the shed, and I've got no idea how deep it is

Nick said he agreed it with the customer. In an ideal world I’m sure the client would want the cables coming out low and buried across to the building but that would add £100’s if not £1000’s to the job

@@NBundyElectrical i would think he means under ground but i also think that would have really made your day a lot longer and not to mention the bill to chris a heck of a lot higher. this overhead span looks great and is with correct cables long lasting, cheap and easy to maintain. burried cable is harder to maintain more expensive then outdoor rated cable that can be left unburried.

@@brendanmichaelwelsh6260 if its only for cctv and iot stuff like the smokeallarms why use cat 6?. get the cheapest outdoor shielded base 10/100 cable you can get. that stuff doesnt need high speed. now if you want to build a nvr server or some other kind of data storage out of the house then yes get the best of the best.
