I never polish vintage/antique items and state that clearly in my description. Patina is strictly up to the buyer. Many folks buy vintage/antiques because it looks old. Blessings

I totally prefer it "as is."

I leave the patina and note in the condition description and full description that buyer always has the option to polish or leave as is.

The steak and potato plates sort of remind me of the 1970s Ponderosa Steakhouse plates.

I had a Creepie Crawler set as a kind in the mid 60s. I used to make spiders and other buys with a hairpin in the back and ask my Mom to wear them. And bless her, she did!

I respectfully disagree with polishing copper or brass. A lot depends on the item, but vintage items should not be polished - you erase the history and limit your market. If someone prefers it polished, they can do it themselves.

That military plaque is for a Marine Corps Aviation Support Squadron that was (and may still be) based out of Okinawa Japan. Good to see that military memorabilia saved. I do the same thing. Many of the old plaques, especially those made in Asia are made from mahogany. I bought 18 lots from a local military auction earlier tonight, to save them. 😉

I want the silver I buy for my collection to be tarnished, we like the old look, I can buy shiny new metal anywhere, but a good tarnish takes time.

Like Candice, most folks think "Top Gun" and the Blue Angels when they think Naval Aviation, with jets flying off aircraft carriers and that is true, that the US Navy has a lot of carrier based planes, but they also have a good number of land based aircraft and even the little Navy Ships carrier a helo or 2.

Silver goes to a matte finish when it tarnishes. Copper goes green, which is verdigris. Other metals, like Cast Iron pans Oxidize or Rust. All those terms describe metal that has aged and suffered when exposed to air or water. I clean those items I think will sell better clean and leave those alone that seem to do fine in their aged state. As for flatware or silverware, I think clean is better, since people will eat off it.

The puff iron company burned down and they did not rebuild. They are very hard to find. They are used in heirloom sewing. Note they get extremely hot and you should use a heat resistant glove.

Please don’t polish it. There’s no identifying it as original instead of a fake foreign make. It makes the price nosedive.
